SMS will refurbish the 70-71 C Body interior door pull straps for $80 each.

I sent some of the long interior door pull straps to Doug at SMS to look at and see if he can refurbish them and I got a call tonight that he can redo them for $80 each. No timeframe was given. These are the door pull straps used on 70 Hurst's, 71 GT's and others. Six months from now (LOL) I'll let you know how they look. Here is a photo of the "before" condition.

Awesome to hear that these will finally be available. I applaud your efforts and working with SMS. Now the wait, as usual.

Critter was looking into reproducing these too, but I suspect his health setback has not enabled that to go further.

If either one pans out, I would be interested, if they can really make them look original.

The Chrysler 300 club had a project to reproduce these for the Hurst models, but the ones that they were showing were pretty pathetic in appearance and feel (way too thin) - not like originals at all IMO.

heaths got me sidelined but if SMS is gona do them for 80 a pop belive that's a smokein deal realy...cost of material and time add up ...hopefully they have the feel to them and not flat like some lve seen...not much to them realy...just a mater of putting right material to them to get a proper feel...this is good news realy...more hard to find c body parts being reproduced

Very sorry to hear about your health set back.

To clarify, they will refurbish/redo your old cracked straps so you need to send them your cores.

SMS will also make correct upholstery kits for the '71 Sport Fury & GT vinyl bucket seat interiors. I ordered a set 7 months ago and they are supposed to contact me with a status today.

has taken me 2 years just to find a nice supple set to replace the door pulls John sent me for the GT...there comein soon John...just need to grab them and ship as soon as lm mobile

Those door pulls are made with a center steel band to which the metal square hold downs are attached on each end.
In between, there are layers of cardboard to achieve the thickness and slide on top of each other to allow the door pull to extend at the center when the door is pulled shut. Really chintzy design IMO. So as long as they keep the right thickness and number of those slider cardboard pieces, we should be good, and they have sewing machine with a needle that can go through all the vinyl and cardboard. At least they are still willing to take on new projects, even though they are pressed to get anything done very quickly.
