Old Man with a Hat
I was working for the Talladega Superspeedway when it was repaved in 2006. The same method was used as the original paving. A paving machine tethered to a heavy dozer for the 36 degree banks.
I have over 200 photos on 3 discs showing the entire process. It was fascinating to watch.
It was put off for as long as possible due to cost but reached a point where it had to get done. The pavement on the high banks was slowly sliding towards the infield, mainly due to erosion. Large plugs, (holes), had been drilled throughout the banks and filled with concrete to slow the process.
They started and had most of turns 3-4 paved when they discovered a mistake and had to tear it all out and start over.
There was a huge ashpault processing plant built on site to recycle the pavement.
