"Special" Editions

Those Cordoba verts may have been done by Cars and Concepts also in Brighton, Mi. Same company cutting in t-tops for Chrysler and later the K-car converts. While the t-tops and K-cars were Chrysler sanctioned, i believe the vert conversion was done at the dealer level. I could swear i've seen than seven.

Hmm. given i never SAW a B-body Doba vert before today, i guuess I can't weigh in. I have searched for both ASC and C&C doba verts and didn't find anything .. that doesn't mean anything other than I didnt see one.

These 7 (alleged) FL cars seemed to have Chrylser's sanction. Will keep look for more data :)

1969 Newport Sportsgrain (carryover from 1968 intro), and 1969 woodgrain "Sportsman Spring Special". Two DIFFERENT cars? Was there a "Sportsman" Newport?

For Sale - 1969 CHRYSLER NEWPORT Sportsman - $5300

A debate without a clear conclusion (or I missed it) was had late last year in above thread. Any thoughts?

The 1969 Newport "Sportsgrain". I have YET to find Chrysler advertising for the 1969 Newport Sportsgrain (several on the T&C wagons) given all the fanfare for the 1968 model (and ads).

Tack this one on. Ad from Emess Coach, the builder mentioned in Popular Mechanics piece and the Chrysler ad.

Yeah, rapidtrans, i am starting to feel like MORE than 7 HAD to have been built. A nationwide rollout (partial or full with barnfind's ad), even if it didnt sell well, HAD to have yielded more sales.

Still lookin' for ASC and C&C versions.

My boss had a tan or biege convert doba. I recall the up-top looked rather odd as most aftermarket conversions do.

i agree .. its got that look that says "after-thought". and they ALL look like that .. wonder why the factory builds look "right" vs the A/M stuff.

And part of the work Emess down in FL did was stiffen the body cuz they essentially just cut of the roof (which of course has MANY structural duties) of a regular production car.

My brother bought one of these off the Lynch Rd. lot. His didn't have the exterior graphics but the cab was done-up with all the deluxe interior pieces. Behind the the seats it was all Tradesman van. Tricking out the back was like a 70s man-cave. Came with those chrome slot wheels and some fat tires. His was the short wheelbase and not the best for ski trips but they looked great.

I seem to remember a number of 200 were built but I could be confusing that with the Mirada/ Cordoba convertibles that were built.

Nothing "special" here I dont think. Seems to be just routine seasonal advertising.

I posted it though to illustrate the "cardinal sin" of vehicle advertising. There may be a few no-no's you could spot -- but theres ONE big one. (Hint: Chrysler did it AGAIN when they launched the first Pacifica in 2004 :) )

One pair drove a golf cart onto the green and a couple of dumbasses drove their enormous station wagons?

Did Celinene Dijon do the same thing with a Pacifica?

Hadnt thought about that but you're right .. thats pretty funny. LMAO.

Yes, they did this THING I am referring to with the intro TV commercials for the Pacifica back in 2004 -- plus a whole HOST of disastrous things with Ms. Dion over the next three years. AND paid her $15M or something like that to boot.

Off track, Ill delete if not fitting. I was surfing looking at other cars, when I stumbled on this model car (a 1967 model). I look at the front end styling ques between the two. Seeing similarities in the hood and top of the fender lines as well as angle of headlights. While I want one of these one day. I'm still unable to get past the roof into quarter panel line of the Imp. The front end and interior of the Imp are pure class. I've never seen the conv version before. Same type of deal as the Cordoba?

I dont know anything about the Magnum concept from 1967 .. like you perhaps I am gonna look at that some more.

this post is cool by me ... we're just askin' questions and passing on to others stuff we know/seen. The J-body Imps were such low volume cars, relatively speaking, carrying the venerable C-body name, seems "special" enough to me. :)

We had a thread here couple years back (I cant find it) where we talked about the J-Body derived '81-'83 Imps. The front end and that polarizing bustle-back look. Anyway, me and some others posted these pics to that thread

That "look" was something Chrysler was horsing around with as early as 1977 for the "LaScala" -- which clearly looks a lot like the Imp that finally got built.

look at the rest of this model kit features. 440 "Magnum" engine with ram tubes, console looks Mopar, sterring wheel, taillights look '65-'67-ish C-body, quarter panels 8 feet long, etc.

If not a Chrysler concept car derivation (guess if we find that, we can toss it into one of the concept car threads here), some designer had Mopar on their minds it looks like.

I noticed the 440 as well, and am trying to find out who designed the model.

Since the photos of Imperial concepts posted above mention a "two seater with a targa roof" being under consideration, I can tell you that was a "yes". From what I can tell looking at old product planning memos, (stamped CONFIDENTIAL!) it never got further than that stage.

I hope the embargo is lifted by now.
