Bet that 4th character in the VIN is really a "G". They ran the VIN to see what it was and came up with that.

Still might be OK for the price. The description says $3500 will buy it... I'll bet a cash deal could get that car for $2500-3000. Aside from the crappy door panels, the car has some potential. A/C, power windows, tilt/tele, AM/FM 8 track etc. Seats look good. Top is iffy, but not in rags. No power vents though. This could be worth a look to some wanting to put in a little time.

This is from my go to quick reference guide but I agree that it likely is a G Code car.

So the second digit, says economy class. I wouldn't think this car would be classified as economy class regardless of engine.

All Newports were "economy class."

As far as I know there were no /6 Chrysler C bodies, in any year. Dodge and Plymouth yes, Chrysler no. Without pictures of the VIN and the motor, I'd say this is phony.

You would think the guy could tell the difference? a 300 is code CM in any event. The Newport is CE, and the Newport Custom is CL.

Scratch that, he’s got 68,998 auctions going on right now. He’s a scrap dealer.
:wtf:

And 684 sales since 2002:realcrazy:
I sent him a note as well, we’ll see if he responds.
Good luck John, but view this one as a shell and a pack of lies until proven otherwise... could become a nice car with a lot of work. If a true 6 car... an oddity with no particular value, but the C body world around you at a show will buzz.

The seller responded to my query for more pictures and details. He stated he will get back to me shortly with the requested information...:wideyed:

I'm actually surprised it has power windows.
Very surprising a Newport would have all these options and a six. Power front disc brakes, AM/FM 8-track, power windows. Something is up with those door panels. Door panels are obviously recovered and he added the 300 grill.

Good news, were all anxiously waiting
This seller is clueless. Here is his response:

according to vin was special order as a 6 cyl and it was available to do so just rare

I was going to ask him to pop the hood and count the spark plug wires, but I'm pretty certain he won't be able to find the outside hood release....

The car is in northeast Maryland. Pretty close to Delaware, Philly, and even NJ.

It comes down to someone needs to go look at the car if anyone here is serious.

:BangHead: so were nowhere further . Damn him :elmer: just answer the question M F er
Just to be clear, this is what I originally asked him:

"You should know that this is a Newport, not a 300. Someone apparently liked the hidden headlights and switched the grill at some point. Also, there has never been a 1969 Chrysler with a 6 cylinder engine. Could you add a picture of the engine and the fender tag to confirm? The fender tag is on the radiator support just to the right of the radiator. With the correct information this might be a good deal. Thanks for your time."

Ironically, I think that if it was listed correctly with a few more detail pictures he might be able to get his asking price. Then again, if it really does have a swapped in 225 slanty it might only be a parts car.

I thought about doing that, but I have precious few good weather Saturdays left this year to work on my own stuff, I can't spare the time.
