Speedo shaft seal direction

Aloha all,

Probably a very elementary question here, but I put on a new speedo cable and ever since I’m leaking transmission fluid. I’m wondering if I put the shaft seal in the wrong direction. Does anyone know which direction it should face?

Can’t tell which way to orient the smooth side versus the side with the lip.

Lip towards where the oil is. Oil is trying to get out and it presses against the lip which then squeezes tighter on the shaft it is sealing.
