Were do we get a speedometer cable for a 65 New Yorker? It has the 727 transmission. I called Speedway and that were asking me details of the fitting that goes into the back of the speedometer and I do not have that detail. Anyway, tried Imperial Motors at the telephone number in another C Body thread and it is some engineering firm. I know Lokar makes one that will fit the 727, but we cannot be sure if it will plug into the meter. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Most instrument repair places or speedometer shops can also fabricate a new one.

As-bought, the speedometer cable in my 65 Newport was broken. But, first insure it wasn't "murdered". I first found that the spinning magnet in the speedometer was loose and wobbled, causing it to grab the aluminum cup which moves the needle. Fortunately, the cable broke before the cup. I sent the spinning part off to a speedo shop to get bronze bushed. I used a generic cable from auto parts, which used to be on the shelves. You cut to length then crimped a square end on to drive the dash speedo. Usually, the cable housing is still OK, so just sliding in a new cable is easier and cheaper, assuming you can still buy one. Auto parts used to sell speedo lube which was oil w/ graphite, but I expect a quality bicycle chain lube would also work.

Has anybody bought from Imperial services lately? I purchased one from them in August. Have tried to call them for a week now and cannot make contact. I get American Engineering and the mail box is full. I would buy one from Ebay, but I don't want to end up with a $150.00 cable and I only need one. Please help!

My wife works at Autozone and we found one in the system and ordered it but I don't know if its the right one. I guess I'll figure out when I try to replace it. I was able to figure out how to get enough stuff out of the way to unscrew and lube the existing one, but I couldn't figure out how to completely remove the cluster >_< Lubing my existing one didn't fix my problem though.

Has anybody used these cables I’m in need of one but don’t want to spring for it if it’s wrong. I have a 65 Plymouth fury it has the press fit like the ones pictured... imperial services doesn’t answer and there is no voicemail left so I’m assuming they are out of business because it’s not even answering as imperial services.
Thanks for the help
