Starting issue(thinking distributor) PICS*

You should be getting battery voltage to the high side of the ballast resistor. Should be pulling at least 7 volts on the output side. Try spanning the ballast resistor with a set of alligator clips. If the car then will start, the ballast resistor is probably bad. Normally, when the ignition is in the start position the ballast resistor is bypassed, so you car should still start and then die when the key is moved to the run position, so you may have something other than a ballast resistor problem. Try this test and report back.

Thanks Dave, and as far as the coil showing only 3.6v with the key turned to accessories, is that too low? Shouldn't it show near the same as battery?

Coil is not normally active in the accessory position, just start and run. Coil should get battery voltage in start and something close to 7v+ at run.

Update***

-removed ECU and grounded it properly and added a grounding strap just to be safe.

-replaced ballast resistor with new unit.

-installed newer batteries terminals and positive wire from alternator to battery(was on my list of things to do)

-installed new battery.

-replaced that one spark plug wire that looked all messed up.

Tried to start and same thing, spray starter fluid in carb and FIRED right up. ‍♂️♂️ the weird thing is though is that I could see the jets squirting fuel when I pressed the throttle. Idk.

Now I need to fix this overheating issue.
Problems are endless.

But you guy's help is priceless. Thanks again!!
