For a ‘70 with power disks. Is this as simple as using a hand vacuume pump to check if it holds vacuume, or is there something more complicated? I have a few of them and I would like to test before I put one in.

Using a vacuum pump will test the integrity of the diaphragm to see if it leaks. This test will not tell you if the diaphragm is degraded from age or exposure to brake fluid. I would have one rebuilt by a quality shop before installing it because it is a pain in the butt job to change the booster.
