I always loved this look. A lost art. Laced paint, hand laid paint strips & laquer air brushing. Side pipes & Keystones. I would love to see this make a comeback.

There is a '64 Impala coupe that comes to the monthly Cars-n-Coffee that is a lowrider with the most magnificent custom paint and lace I've seen in many years! The level of craftsmanship in the Impala is simply amazing. There is another car very similar in theme to the pictured 'Cuda that shows occasionally. It was customized in 1973 as an ISCA show puppy with a lot of lace and obvious '70s custom techniques. The fact that it is an unrestored custom from that time and in as great of shape as it is, is so cool. This next CnC, I'll have to get pics of both cars and post them.

it looks cool, but my only issue with it is, ya cant drive it!! any piece of anything could potentially ruin the artwork!!

I've always loved those paint jobs from that era too.

I remember a neighbor that used to do these types of paint jobs in his garage. He was real good. I remember seeing cars with lace paint and paint jobs that resembled fish scales and alligator hide, as well as murals with space scenes, stars and planets, ect. He did cars, vans and motorcycles. There weren't very many pick-ups being done in those days. That was a long time ago. I think I was in Junior High at the time.

I also remember seeing cars like that in magazines like Hot Rod and PHR back then too. Of course, I was dreaming up the car that I wanted when I turned sixteen, so naturally, some of these paint schemes figured into it. That never came to be, but I've often thought about trying to use a few of these paint ideas today to kind of build the car that I would've built back then.

I intend to do the roof of one of my Dodge D100 pickups with lace. If I jack it up, I'll sand it down and try again!

Good lord, thank god that era died. LSD induced paint jobs... Just say no.

I do, too! Once I get over my "I don't wanna do a damn thing in the shop!" rut, that is on the list.

I really like it when it's mild. The thought has crossed my mind on doing it on the fury. If I did I think I would do a pearl only or a "ghost" lace. Nothing loud or too pronounced. I'm not really a "look at me" guy. I like the subtle custom touches. The ones that make people scratch their heads for a sec.

It could be an alternative to replacing a vinyl top.

I'm considering it myself, as I will need new vinyl otherwise. I don't really just want the top painted body color.

I love the look on the car in the picture.

I also love pinstriping and ghost flames, although not necessarily both on the same car.
