That 70's thing

Around here the kids are Rihno lining their cars. The whole darn thing. Seen a Dodge Journey & I think a Miata. Had to have gone to the parts store and bought a case of the rattle can. Wonder what kind of drugs you got to be on to do that creativity

:laughing7: Something similar almost started to become a trend around here back in the late 80's - early 90's. There were a handful of people who started spraying their entire vehicle with paintable undercoating and then painting over it. One guy had a mid-seventies Ford 4x4 truck. I asked him what was on it and he told me he had sprayed it with Duraguard and then done his custom two tone paint job over it. One other car that stuck in my mind was an early 70's Challenger. It was painted white over that stuff. That was around 1990 - 91 and was the last time I ever remember seeing anyone do it.

I think this thing started from that TV show where Stacy David Rhino lined Ted Nugents Bronco. And light bulbs went off in teenage brains all across the country. I should do that to my Civic they pondered

Oh it was around LONG before that. My first encounter was during my Bronco years I'm saying '94-'95. We began to see it on trail rigs that routinely the rough stuff. Saves the paint from the rocky mountain pinstriping.

At a car show last week I saw this row of five displaying a "hail protection coating" being offered for sale. It looked like a clear or possibly pearlized clear textured spray. Not to my liking. My first thought was a row of "dipped" cars.
