The 1973 Chrysler Thread

I'm gonna post this here

I have to wonder with those floors and the rest of the issues whether that car is a victim of some of the floods Texas has encountered in recent years. Anything from Texas with those issues makes me wonder.

The seller has shared additional pictures. As I had surmised, CS23T3C153725 was born with GB5 livery and V1W vinyl top. Add to that the V7W pinstripes, and she must have looked very sharp — and she still could. I think a white vinyl top, WW tires, and the stripes, and she’d look good.

Beautiful. Looks like CS23T3C106581 sports M45 fender skirts in some pictures but not in others. Do you take them off, and later put them back on, as the mood strikes?

Thank you sir! The skirts came off early on and have been off since. I like seeing more of the wheels back there and makes the car look less "heavy".
Also the tires have been replaced with a thinner WW style. Those above were American Classics.

Yesterday I noticed that Benny's new Newport has an 8.25 "rear axle with 2.71 diff. in it. I'm a bit surprised, according to the data sheet, only 8.75" axles were installed in the `73 Newport and NewYorker. The seller claims the vehicle is completely original. The casting number is 2852905, according to the database this is an 8.25 "axle for 69/70`s a- or b-bodies. Does anyone have an explanation for this, or has someone simply fitted a wrong axle? Pictures follow below.

Plenty of 1973 C bodies were built with 8.25" rear axles, so it's very likely that it is original.

The database is just incorrect.

This one popped on FB 2 weeks ago in Germany for €19,500. Looks like a really nice car, it's mentioned in my thread amongst the other C-bodies i found, 440 Coupe in blue..oh and apparently it's named BJ..:D

Thank you for posting it here! My first guess would not have been that "Bj. 1973" was the name of the car

It'd be great if one of our German friends could get the tag for records -- there is a photo of the door VIN tag, so privacy should not be an issue. The car seems to have been loaded (H53 Auto Temp 2, tilt wheel, power locks) yet the seats are a cloth bench -- the first time I've seen that choice on a 1973 NYB coupe.

The interior puzzles me: The front seats look like they may have been J3B8 (AFAIK, the only way to get cloth seats on an NYB 2dr in 1973) but the foam scalloping seems incorrect for an NYB (picture below courtesy of the Hamtramck Registry).

If indeed it was J3B8 (something the tag would confirm), then one can see that (i) the original clamshell front seat backs and (ii) the J3 vinyl inserts on the bolsters/headrests/central armrest have all been replaced by cloth, and the latter is incorrect:

Although the ad says that lots of parts have been replaced with NOS, it is unfortunate that the seats and headliner were not redone correctly. Here are more photos showing issues for the purist:

1. the engine bay is missing its washer bottle.

2. the new headliner does not look like the original:

3. there are an extra radio and two speakers under the dash; I wonder if the horn still works given the crack on the rim blow wheel:

4. @T-revorNobody's fourth photo suggests that this NYB was originally GB5 and has been (nicely) repainted. To finish with a positive note, then, the rear view is (to my eyes) the best:

it is possibly a mid year change.
The original data book claims 8 3/4 rear ends for all Chryslers/Imperials.
It would be important to check the VINs and SPDs on those who have an 8 1/4 rearend to find out at what point it was probably changed.
So documenting the Newports with an 8 3/4 versus the 8 1/4 would be interesting

Agreed! That kind of info, whose collection for 1970 senior Dodges was started on the Yahoo Board originally by @polara71, @Fratzog, @My70monaco, @Bill Watson, @kmccabe56 and several other FCBO members like @fc7_plumcrazy, has helped figure out intra-MY changes to the dash pad (e.g., the instrument hood shape) and the kind of master cylinder.

It’d be great to utilize this thread in part for the same purpose. Posting the fender tags is important for this reason. There are many 1973 Chrysler’s in Germany, several of whom are posting in this thread — so I hope that we will get the Tag info for this and other German cars whose owners are happy to share it. The same is true for other countries of course!

Thank you for posting. CL23M3C256755 is a '73 Newport Navajo. I looked at it earlier this year but decided it was too big of a project for me.

Here is another 1973 Newport currently for sale. This one is a 4dr sedan in Baltimore, MD (credits @tfrogh and @burgmopar). Although it is a parts car IMHO, the interior looks very well preserved: anyone who needs a B2F6 green 1973 Newport 4dr vinyl bench interior would be well advised to look at this car.

I just posted about this nice white 4dr Hardtop with black interior in Mathiston, Mississippi for $7,000 in this thread
The car is now sold, hopefully the new owner will join FCBO. Meanwhile, here is a photo of a nice 1973 NYB in Germany back in 2015. This 4dr hardtop seems to be DY2 Sunfire Yellow, like @73Coupe's 2dr:

oops, Put it in the wrong thread at first.
I'll add mine to the list.
B9 '73 New Yorker Brougham. Bought it in 2006 I think it was as a roller. The previous owner had pulled the 440 as a spare for his other cars. Nice guy, big into Imperials, had like 5 or 6 of them.
I tried to get a 440 for it but at the time couldnt find one, ended up getting a 400 for it instead. Got it on the road in 2010 and put a lot of miles on it. It's been off the road now a few years as I wanted to fix some rust on it. The lower quarters needed patched up and it had a vinyl top on it originally which has rotted out the lower window channel. Subframe needs work too now. Been working on it again now since last summer though.
Dont have many decent pics on this computer. First pic is when I first got it with no engine.

The filigree moldings have turned white on mine too. I have a nos RR quarter molding I was going to put on as mine was damaged one day when a friend was pulling it out of a garage. I never did put it on though because of the mismatch. I thought about seeing if a vinyl graphics place could make a tape that looked similar as others have suggested.

There was a partial build sheet on top of the glovebox when I pulled it out years ago. May help with your records?

Thank you @73 NYB!

Very nice color combo

Question: you stated that CS43T3C279213 had a vinyl top when you bought it. However, from the build sheet, it looks like yours is a rare NYB that was built without vinyl top — it looks to be JB9 Blue all the way (with a dark blue H7B8 interior). Could it be that the top vinyl was a later addition by a dealer or owner?
