The Hurst Registry

This is an update to the January 14, 2025 posting of the Registry. Yellow highlights are "new" information. We now have real info on 81 cars, about 17 percent of the 485 produced. Again, I have a list of about 280 VINs, but it's only VINs from a 300 Club list, no other information. Amazingly, our random Registry detective work has found 19 cars that are NOT in the 300 Club list. :poke:

Since the last posting exactly six months ago--with the great help of more than a few of you--we have nine new Hursts listed. Several of these were "found" in the postings above since last January, and it took me a while to find corroborating info such as DS and VON data, etc. We also have new data on 194408, where all I had before was "Located in Bradenton, FL. Well.....the car turns up at the recent BBTR event and we now the Door Sticker date and the VON. Our Euro correspondent also provided a new finding, 228779 and the VON, but unfortunately no Door Sticker. We can safely assume it's a June car....until @69CoronetRT spanks me for assuming ANYTHING with these damn Hursts.

Long ago I saw a Hurst at a car show in the Tidewater VA area. A few months ago I remembered that a friend was taking pics back then and I asked him to send them to me. In those pics was a "show placard" at the front bumper that had the owner's name. The search was on--long story--but I found the car's owner, made a call (many calls), and arranged for my Tidewater friend to visit the car with his camera in hand. I'll soon make a post about that AMAZING time capsule find, 199992.

Again, I've done the best I could with the image below. I know it's fuzzy and I hate it, too. It starts as a very clear Excel file, copied and pasted to Paint, and saved as a PNG file that is compatible with uploading here. That's what I have been doing thus far, and is exactly what the Interweb says to do. If anyone has a better method that doesn't require me to attend Stanford for a remedial IT degree or buy some program that I would have no other use for, I'm all ears. Make it easy on me, please.

Can you right click the excel file, Open in paint and save in jpeg? PNG sucks.
Just curious. I've not had this issue with the file being fuzzy. Kind of difficult to read.
Thanks for all your work!!

Well yeah, I think I mentioned that it's fuzzy.

Here it is saved as a JPEG. Equally awful. I have been told that most websites such as this compress/optimize images to control file size (makes sense) and I believe there are workarounds such as fiddling with pixels/format before uploading to a website, but as I hinted above I'm not much interested in fiddling with this, as my arms are too short to box with the gods of the forums. JPEG is for pictures, PNG is for text, says the experts, because of "seriously complicated electrikery".

I use the same Excel-to-paint to FCBO and have been posting nice clean jpeg's on Facebook. So, I'm attaching an example to see if mine comes through cleaner. Not knowing the difference, I have been using jpeg format. BTW, my decoder does not go beyond 1966 currently. I would like to forward the 19 "new" VIN's and any other data on same to the two Chrysler 300 Club registrars. OK?

OK. Not as crisp as on FB. I have a small accumulation of 1970 Chrysler data--mostly Hurst. Body Data Plates, VIN tags, window stickers, invoices, PBS's, car pix & etc. Is there a central keeper of stuff like that I could send it to? Not a big collection, but perhaps of interest. BTW what does Code A12* mean? I see A12* on window stickers with no explanation or price? Is there an online Body Plate decoder for '70 Chryslers/Hurst??

I've been using a hosting site for pictures and they maintain their higher resolution. Uploading to the forum loses resolution and there's probably some loss in copies of copies. IIRC, you used to be able to upload an excel file, but I might be thinking of another forum.

I use Imgur and it's reasonably easy to upload to and link.

I discussed this with Joey in April 2024 when I was starting this Registry thing. He made it clear that active files (such as an Excel spreadsheet) are verboten because they can harbor all sorts of malware and infect the website(s). I only know what I'm told, but this makes sense to me.

If you want, you can email them to me and I'll see if we can get better resolution with the Imgur hosting.

OK, test 1.

I changed the font to Arial and uploaded a cropped screen shot to Imgur.

and uploaded to the forum a modified font version

The Imgur version is cleaner, but I think the uploaded version with mods is readable.

"Clearly."

Thank you Big_John. I'm going to do some testing with regular Arial vs. the standard Excel font of Aptos Narrow (whatever that is). If I get it right I'll delete/replace that version into my Post #203.

You C-Bod folks might recall that I posted my Hurst Registry spreadsheet in the “Nerd” and “NOT MINE” threads in the April 2024 timeframe, but decided to remove it, polish it, add to it, and most importantly figure a way to make it a standalone document that can be added to as we find more CM23xx/J99xx Hursts in the years ahead.

I talked with @Joeychgo and @Toolmanmike about a “living document” that other members could access, add to, download, etc. They immediately said “No Way!” because such a thing inserted into a forum is a magnet for bugs, hacks and other terrible diseases. Of course they’re absolutely right. They helpfully gave me some suggestions and this post is the result.

I also spoke with @ayilar about this because he’s concerned with preserving the compiled information well into the future, should this forum cease to exist for whatever reason, or that I cease to exist (for whatever reason!). So here is how this thread will work, but first let me explain what the Registry is about.

I got the idea for doing this when the Nerd/NOT MINE threads were discussing the scrambled time gaps for VINs, VONs, and Door Sticker dates. To see if there was an understandable pattern to these gaps, I developed this Registry so we can see the numbers. I included a column to mention some specifics (Console, Cruise, junker, etc.) so--as a group--we can hopefully track these cars into the future. I did try to find some existing Hurst listing like the 300 Club…nothing. Several of you contributed valuable information to this list, so thank you.

In this Post #1, you’ll see the Registry date of July 4, 2024. When I get new information, either via this thread or by a PM is someone wishes to remain anonymous, I’ll update the spreadsheet and put in a NEW post, leaving all prior spreadsheets unchanged in this thread. That might mean that the next Registry update might be in September and be Post # 34 after we get comments on this post. When I get good solid info from one of you I’ll be happy to update ASAP. Another reason I'm doing it this way (new postings of the document vs editing Post #1), is that over time the Edit function no longer works.

Some of you were concerned I would be the only owner of the spreadsheet. If anyone wants a copy of the original spreadsheet send me a PM with your email and I’ll send it to you. But I won’t be sending updates….you’re on your own in that regard.

So, if you have info to add to this Hurst Registry, let’s see it. Several of you had good insight into the reason for the “gaps” (much of which has already been kicked around in Nerds and NOT MINE) and I invite you to repeat it here for posterity. Comments and suggestions are quite welcome, but I don't intend to expand this file with links to relevant webpages or photos, etc. Generally, it is what it is.....a list based on VINs.

I'm still working to find the best method to convert an Excel file into a clear image file, like the PNG image you see below, and @ayilar is helping me with this. It's legible enough for now and better than a screenshot. Let's give it a try!

I Found this Hurst 300 for sale today on Facebook. Id tag doesn't match are records. @Trace 300 Hurst is this a new find. Located in western Indiana. I left a message to contact me.
Nice find, David. 207591 is NOT on the 300 Club's list of about 280 Hursts, so this really is a new find. (207590 and 207592 is on their list, btw.)

From the FTag it looks very standard regarding options. Looking forward to hearing more from you on this one.

You're probably aware that your car is in the Registry and showing C16 Console (as were a surprising number of cars around your VIN for some unknown reason).

Can you tell us more about the car? I have a pic of the FTag, but how about providing one of the Door Sticker (and thanks for that 3/70 date....you filled a nice gap with that!) and anything else you want to share here. Also, your car is NOT listed in the 300 Club's list of member's VINs, so it's another "newly-found outcast" which is kinda cool.

FYI

Thanks for posting! Do you have a restoration thread on the car?
What are your plans?
