The Sport Fury S/23: how many survived?

S/23 has the "power bumps" in the hood with the inset signal flashers just like GT, and it shared the same sure-grip rear, 727 torque-flite, and HD suspension as its GT brother. A 2.76 axel ratio was available as was a "3 speed" manual transmission with 318 and 383 2bbl... but why the heck would you want those if you're ordering a "sporty" car?? luckily 383 4bbl didn't permit choosing such options... just in case some rocket scientist nitwit was thinking they would split the difference between power and economy!

The S/23 came with the strobe stripe like the GT but while some "historical" background from several car sites talk about S/23 having hood accents too, the S/23 pictures i've seen do not appear to show the hood decal treatment like the GT. Have you seen one with hood decal accents on the power bumps?

All 1970 Plymouth Furys came with the "power bulge" hood. From wagons to cop cars to GTs.

You got the hood mounted turn signals with the Light Package (A01).

The S/23s came with the hood stripes too, just like the GTs.

Hopefully more will come out of the woodwork! They won't draw GT money, but they will be respectable in their own right.

More pics before it was cleaned

Seems I am always learning. I used to own a regular 1970 Sport Fury that also was a brougham model. Mine had the B3 lighter blue exterior and a blue bucket seat interior. It had only 60K miles on it and the interior was definitely original. What struck me as odd, is that the interior in this car being discussed (brown) has a different pattern to the seat inserts than mine had. My blue inserts were kind of a very fine perforated vinyl, rather than the smooth but somewhat grained vinyl used in the dark brown inserts interior in this car. So I went and took a second look at the color and trim selector for the 1970 Sport Fury Brougham models, and found that the green and blue interiors had different insert patterns than the brown and black ones - I don't think I have seen this done ever before for different colors for the same seat design overall. These two photos show it better from the color and trim selector:

The pictures compare two different interior patterns. The top one is the H7 interior. The bottom is H8.

Hmmm, you are correct, as the first set of patterns are vinyl and fabric while the second are all vinyl. What confuses me then is that my 1970 Sport Fury Bougham did not have vinyl inserts of grained vinyl - rather it was a fine perforated vinyl pattern. This brown interior does match the color and trim selector grained vinyl however. Maybe mine was a running change interior for the Brougham models with an all vinyl bucket seat interior. I wish I had some photos of mine, as it is the only one I have ever seen in person, and it was definitely original. Maybe I can get some photos from the current owner in Arizona. It seems to me the perforated vinyl pattern looks much more upscale and fitting for a Brougham model than use of the grained vinyl that is more commonly used in lower line models of all vinyl seats.

Also, the lighter brown shade of vinyl on the seats of this yellow S23 doesn't seem to match the door panels or dashpad. I really don't like the color contrasts and plain look of the vinyl in this brown Brougham interior. My light blue interior of my Brougham model didn't have sharply contrasting color shades like this brown interior either and all the colors matched in my light blue Brougham interior (seats, dashpad and door panels). Mine was also a 2 door hardtop.

Steve,

I had a 70 Sport Fury GT Brougham with the brown interior, I can't say for sure it was exactly the same as this S/23. I remember the stitching on the inserts of my GT Brougham was a different pattern.

Not sure if this has been posted before, but I just found this:
1970 Plymouth Sport Fury GT - 10.jpg

The tires on the 70 Sport Fury GT are GOODYEAR POLYGLASS H70 tires, which are correct.

I'm going to assume the ad copy writer was using "general language" in describing the "Wide Oval" as a type of tire and not a BRAND name of Firestone. But "white streak" means "white wall" as far as I know.

So your SFGT got Goodyear Polyglass RWL H70 and your S/23 got "Wide Oval" H78 WHITE WALL tires?

I think the tires in the pic are Goodyear Polyglas models that didn't have the sizing listed on them. Like this:
