So I’m converting to the Sanden style compressor and I’ve got the thermal expansion valve that supposedly works with that set up. Question it is I don’t know where this part of the tube goes to. Any suggestions?

My guess is it needs to sense the outlet suction line temp of the evaporator.
Thank you. I’m getting all new hoses made and not retaining the original metal tubing that the OEM style of TXV used, so I’m trying to find out where this coiled bit would go to specifically.

Did it not come with instructions? Mine is still original so cap probe goes in sleeve on suction line. Wish I could help more.

Nope. It's meant to just replace what's already there, but I'm converting from RV-2 compressor to Sanden style with R-xyz123 whatever it's called.

it needs to be on the outlet of the evaporator strapped tightly on the suction line and insulated. it senses the refrigerant temperature to modulate the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator

Where'd you get it?
I got stuff from bouchelin (spelling?) performance. Pretty sure the instructions said stick it down into the evaporator or if not wrap around the tube and use the gookenpocky to seal around it. Don't remember mine having that coil.

It’s a four seasons unit that I got from rock auto but Summit racing and others also sell the exact same piece. It’s basically a “universal” thermal expansion valve. The kit from Bouchillon includes this exact same unit and their instructions just say to attach the bulb to the tubing with a clip and insulate it. Of course, the bulb shown in the diagram for the instructions does not match the part that they actually give you. I know where it’s supposed to go. I just don’t know whether I need to unravel it further or leave it coiled as is and clip it to the tubing and insulate it.

I think I would leave it coiled for maximum contact with suction line. I would use cork tape and wrap hood and tight.

Mine, done per Bouchillon instructions.

It's attached with a clip.

Yes, I read that a clip is used to attached it, but its not pictured so I have no idea what type of clip it might be. The instructions also mention a "bulb" but the TXV I have doesn't have a bulb, just a highly coiled "ending". Can explain a little further what the clip looks like? Any photos from before the black goo was applied?

The coil is the "bulb". No I don't have pictures before putting the perma gum on it.

Here's the clip. It just has to hold the coil or "bulb" against the metal fitting, so it doesn't have to be much.

Thank you very much! I have ordered the clip and a couple of other parts I needed. As soon as my brake booster is rebuilt and returned, I'll be taking the Newport to the shop to have the hoses made, and hopefully the evaporator will hold a vacuum and I can have A/C again for the first time in decades!

I couldn't remember what it looked like, did mine in 2012. I will tell you the clip and goop method is good enough that the compressor will cycle while operating so it must be ok.
