Mark, you are crazy if you aren't on the road to get that beauty. It's perfect for you!!! All you have to do is put gas in it!!!!

yes, it would...........and Nader is a first class bonehead.

it's now in the hands of a flipper dealer (WTH else is new, right)? I like it Bob, but it's not my first choice. One thing these cars do not have going for them in my opinion is the open air feel....the pillarless htps with 4 windows feel a lot closer to a rag than these 2 window cars. Betcha he stole it for abt $1500.

I suspect he paid $3500 and wants to get between $5-7K. Also it has some surface rust under the rear passenger quarter molding. This is where the vinyl top ends and the painted area begins. Last year we did the same area on my '78 NYB Coupe and it was not fun. One weird fact is behind that small rear side quarter windows is a full size piece of glass. And, if you put a window crank on the gear, you can roll it down as we did.

............Your kidding?

No, I'm not kidding. I heard this from mechanics years ago and it is 100% true. If you look at a base Newport and see how large the rear side quarter window is and then how Chrysler made it look like a custom roof......its all covered with vinyl. The exterior is plastic (if I remember correctly, not metal). The same roof process was used on the 85-89 era Fifth avenues (rear wheel drive) to make the roof look inflates and rear window smaller.

they prob had the parts already made, saves on additional development costs. still crappy though with that tiny window. That is a great piece of trivia though Pete!

But why not make it operable if it was that close to possible

On the inside of the "78's era "C"'s there is not a tight seal with the trim of the inside. The opening with the window down would be odd looking at best. Is someone had power window motors, switches and mechanisms you could make them functional. You would have to mount the switch or if you left them manual find a long neck window crank. We attached a visegrip and raised/lowered it to get to some of the inside screws etc for the roof repair on the outside.

I bet it'll take $8k or better to buy this car from the used car lot.

That is a nice car and an interesting fact on the rear window, thanks Pete.
Mark whatever happened with your well???

............Your kidding?
Mine still had the power window motors. They were left unplugged.

As Pete said above, if you remove the vinyl top, remove the plug which is riveted on, you're back to your normal two door hardtop. In addition, for the interior sail panel, the "opera window" panel is simply screwd on over the standard 2 dr. hardtop sail panel. There is no seal, per se, of the faux roof against the glass so the window has to stay closed to provide a seal.
