Hey guys,

Well what started as a cracked exhaust manifold has now evolved into a new engine/transmission overhaul, AC/heater rebuild and steering overhaul. Don’t ask.

I understand the 1965 tilt column is GM. (I would love to know how many martinis were involved by all the screws installed inside/out?!??) Does anyone know how much GM provided? I.E. just the shaft/joint mechanism or the entire assembly including tube? I am
looking for bearings. The top has two tapered bearings at the wheel with a sealed bearing at the base end in the engine compartment. I am drawing blanks on my searches. I can probably survive on current ones but with all the effort to disassemble (see note above about martini lunches), I am a bit OCD on restoration, would like to replace. Any direction or insight is greatly appreciated!

OC Steering Columns may have parts. He is very knowledgeable.

Cleaning the bearings should expose a number on the outer/inner shell that any good bearing house would have or could order for you.

Understand that although GM/Saginaw built the column, it is NOT exactly the same as the ones GM built for their cars. Chrysler engineers made changes THEY wanted that GM was not doing, by observation. So that CAN be some crossover in the parts, but do not expect that.

The existing bearings can be cleaned and re-lubed. They are not the most HD bearings due to their locations on the car (compared to wheel bearings), so cleaning and re-lubing should make then much "like new" again, I suspect. On the sealed bearing, the plastic "seal" can be easily popped out and then re-installed. Finesse and such can be required.

There should be some "exploded views" in the appropriate model year Chrysler Parts Manual. www.mymopar.com .

Just some thoughts and observations,

Thanks for this. You are correct! Once I got all of it cleaned out and up, the bearings actually are in good order. All of the slop I was getting was due to the bearings being out of adjustment. Someone else (like many things on this car) had been there and the reassembly was bad. I also found one of the pins had backed out leaving play in the up/down adjuster.
