Time out dolls.

When I saw one many years ago at a car show, I thought it was pretty funny and clever. Then they got popular and I got sick of them really fast...

There was a local guy that used to have one... When he saw someone looking at it, especially some older women, he would run up and kick the doll, yelling "get off my car". Now that was funny.

Thanks Commando, That gave a good laugh.

Between this and Fuzzy dice man...

Me too. I stopped going to car shows years ago. Well at least the local yocal shows. Same cars, show after show, after show. Especially the cruise-ins, same tired cars, same tired stories. meh.

This and poodle skirt era rock and roll at shows drives me insane.

The creepy dolls aren't convincing. I tried to get a buddy's 3 year old to take that pose at a car show so he could then jump out and surprise passers by. It didn't work. No 3 year old can stand still for more than a few seconds. That alone makes the dolls totally unrealistic.

Drive-in window trays with plastic food. :soapbox:

So seriously, Whats with all of these little gimmicks? Between the reality TV shows and all these little toys that people surround themselves with it leads me to believe that in the car community taste is in short supply.

Not only do I attend our local Tuesday night cruise night regularly, I enjoy picking out the muscle car knuckle draggers with the braided rad hoses and watching them sweat as I back in my land yacht next to their spot. Those wusses don't show up if there is even a hint of rain in the forecast. IMHO our cars need to be out there as much as possible.

Exactly, A car is meant to be used and enjoyed.

I hate this crap too.

I was doing some car show judging and one class came down to two cars for the number one spot. I went back and forth on these two cars... both were just about perfect. I finally decided that first place would go to the guy that didn't have all his trophies displayed in his trunk.

I should add... I do like tasteful trunk "accessories" like period correct coolers, luggage etc.

I remember the days of seeing painted paint thinner cans marked oil and water at the big indoor shows. They were worth a couple of judges points, so every car had them. I hated those too.

Uh oh. Better not come to my house. I surround myself with "little toys". I collect 1/18 scale diecast cars and have 8 displayed in the den, 51 displayed in the living room (including these in the coffee and end tables), 34 displayed in the dining room, 13 in the foyer, and 26 displayed in the master bedroom. Trying to figure out where to display an additional 300 of my "little toys". But, They all stay at home. I don't drag them out to car shows.

Rods with small block Chevys. Ok, anything with a small block Chevy.

I never understood the timeout doll thing, the first time I saw one I wanted to punt it but I resisted the urge.

I'm not so sure it's the lack of taste as much as it is a lack a friends to tell them all that **** is lame. If I see a car at a car show with a time out doll, fuzzy dice, model of the car on display, etc., I just keep on walking. The worst are the knobs at the GTO shows with their tiger stuffed animals.
