Tony Stewart incident

Yeah things go real bad at 300 and the sand trap fails...

It depends on the track...

Some tracks, like in Arizona, can extend the shutdown area for miles. Englishtown is at the max....there's a road that crosses the end of the shutdown area and it can't be extended any further. I was at the track when Scott Kalitta crashed and died and when Neal Parker crashed and died in an Alcohol Funny Car at E-Town. They re-engineered the sand trap and catch fence but I believe it'll only be a matter of time before another death will occur.

And we are still to this day talking about the aero cars and the Hemi advantage, Ford not pulling the trigger with the Sohc engine in a production car. All of that "crying" is good for publicity as long as safety is not compromised it is good period in 30 yrs. will anybody be looking back talking about jimmy johnsons hair or car color there is just nothing happening which turns into boring, nascar is taking the easy way out and the fans suffer and then leave, I did maybe I'm the only one good for nascar I guess they know what their doing.

NASCAR hasn't been interesting to me since it stopped being a car race, just bores me to no end. What happened at this dirt track is tragic anyway the chips fall.

I love nascar. Today's race was awesome. I wish they'd run more road courses.

The NHRA is walking a fine line with this as all fuel cars run a version of the 426 hemi even though they don't promote it, the very engine that the NHRA factored out competition is their bread and butter. Nitro is what saves them because it can totally change a race. Pro stock is a different animal, engineering, tuning, manufactures engine style even if it resembles nothing stock and the body has to fit a template that is different from each other. Veriatey saves them car types, classes.

I wish they would run the Sprint cup cars at Road America - Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Stewart is probably gonna get his dick stepped on for this one. Here he is, an experienced, 45-yo racer, running with a bunch of 17 - 30 yo guys. One guy gets sideways, wrecks out, and blames Stewart. Stewart sees the guy standing on the track (where he should NEVER have been!) and looks to try to "scare" him a bit by getting on the gas and getting the car sideways somewhat. This in turn, killed the other driver. Sounds like this could be construed as negligence on the part of Tony Stewart, regardless of where the other driver was when he got hit.

Either way, whether criminal charges are filed or not against Tony Stewart, this will cost him a LOT in a wrongful-death suit by the family of Kevin Ward, and his reputation is likely going to suffer as a result. Or, it could be just the opposite...look at that jackass from the Baltimore Ravens who retired last year, Ray (I killed someone and got away with it!) Lewis. Hell, he was celebrated for his talents, up to his last game! Go figure that, right?

Maybe not intentionally to hit the guy, but intentionally to get his car a little sideways to scare the **** out of him. The tactic backfired. And no, I'm not alone here.

He'll certainly pay financially. Professionally, who knows?

Doubt it. He most likely didn't even see the kid until it was too late.

Watch that video again and you'll see the car in front of Stewart swerves to miss the kid, Stewart is left with no where to go, his car doesn't deviate from its line until after he makes contact.

Tell me how well someone approaching from the right side of the car is going to be seen.. Dressed in black no less.

Ever have a deer, (or any critter), run out in front of you on a dark 2 lane while traveling 60 MPH......?

A guy ..... wearing black ....... on a dirt track ........ at night. He was tempting fate, and lost.

I've seen enough dirt track races over 20+ years to know, but thanks, guys. I raced in the late '70s on a 1/4-mile dirt oval in Colorado for a couple of seasons, so yes, I'm fully aware of WTF is up. And if you read today's news, Stewart is NOT off the hook yet. Stay tuned.

Yes, he did. So, between HIS actions, and Tony Stewart doing what he did, a guy is dead. I stand by my words.

So then ....... Your fully aware of what happens in a 1800 lb car designed to operate with the right rear hung out...... with 700+ HP. and gobs of torque ..... low gear ratio and a very short wheel base when one lifts off the gas to quickly .........
A lesser driver then stewart and that car would likely have swapped ends.

It's a natural reaction, there was no intention.
