I got the transmission back together in Elwood, my 68 Fury II 4 door and I can’t get the transmission into park.
I can get it into all of the other gears.
I suspect that I didn’t insert the parking rod properly.
I have dumped about 6 quarts of transmission fluid in it.
I thought that I got the parking rod inserted, but I must have goobered it and not got it to snap in.

Any suggestions before I drain the fluid and drop the pan?

Yep, drain and pull the pan.

Go to the Dollar Store and grab a nice new dish pan, clean everything up around the pan etc. and reuse the fluid. Been there, done that.

Two thoughts. Are you sure this is not a linkage problem? have you tried shifting into park with the linkage disconnected at the trans shift lever?
Also an old (long gone) trans specialist directed me to strain the fluid through a disposable paint strainer before reusing it. Lindsay

I disconnected the linkage with no joy.
I’ll use a paint strainer when refilling.

Thank you all for the advice and recommendations!

Found it!
I didn’t put the shift lever in between the tabs on the valve. I will reassemble and retest.

The parking pawl/rod was fine.

Correct position shown and circled in green.
