Uncovered ports on 440 heads?

Hey y’all, I’m test fitting an edelbrock performer 7193 on my new (to me) 440. It’s a 73. There’s these two open ports that the intake doesn’t cover, seems wrong? Am I crazy? Missing something?

those cutouts allow airflow around the port that feeds exhaust under the intake manifold to pre heat it
