Some of you may remember this from another thread several months ago......

I am building one now or I should say my shop is. Not quite so radical but will be fun when done. and yes no where near worth what I will put into it. Details:

65 New Yorker 2 door
Grille converted to New Yorker with the glass covers
383 stroked to 496 Eddy heads, Hydraulic Roller Cam
727 torque flight
73 disc conversion on front.
Firm Feel Stage 2 Power Steering
Vintage air for air conditioning and heat
3.23 sure grip in the 8 3/4
TTI Headers and full exhaust (electric cut outs to scare the children and old ladies)
Resto details: Car was on the rotisserie and stripped/blasted. Most suspension component's are powder coated etc. front clip is from Arizona, some quarter repair but floors and rear frame trunk floor solid. All new weather stripping, stainless polished etc. Bumpers rechromed.

Biggest issue so far in planning and mock up is finding an off the shelf 17" wheel that will fit behind the fender skirt. I may have to have them custom built What I started with:

So I wanted to update some progress on the car. It is in the final stages of de bugging. I would remiss if I didn't mention the shop and recognize all the people there. Total Performance in Carroll, Iowa. Benton has handled this from the beginning and the car is turning out beautifully. Doing a C body to this level as many of you here know is not easy and he is killing it ! Have to post a video from one of his "shake" down runs. 2 black marks for 685 feet. He says it is a monster for torque but still maintains the classic C body feel and vibe. Cut out's are open on this one but I will try to post another with them closed.

That looks good, need pic's when it's finished. How did you get 496 cubes from a 383? I have seen 400 to 451 stroker kits and 440 stroker kits but 496 from a 383 is asking a lot

A 496 is a very nice engine, the 383 is .030 over with a 4.25 stroke crank. Very little grinding was required for clearance of the rods, and the internal oil pickup cleared. I installed a few baffles in the pan and deepened it to hold 7 quarts. I like roller cams, used a very mild hydraulic cam and lifter set. She idles great and runs fantastic, runs cool.

With all due respect Commando1, you may want to recheck your math. It really comes out to a 489. The rotating kit came from 440source. A 383 B engine stock is 4.25 bore with a 3.375 stroke. A early 383 RB has a 4.03 bore with a 3.75 stroke. A 426 has a bore of 4.25 with a stroke of 3.75. The Newport has a 383 with a bore of 4.28 with a stroke of 4.25. I'm not real sure how you came up with a 427??? I understand your retired, no worries I feed Thunder and Lighting monthly.

Check out the 440 source website. They offer 4 kits to stroke the 383 to 496 ci. Two that are .030 over (flat tops and dished pistons) and 2 .060 over. It isn't for everyone but so far this thing is pretty bad a$$. Will it last 100,000 miles ? probably not....will it out live me and my right foot ? All I am saying is Thank God Benton talked me into the rev limiter lol.

They have kit that'll take a 400 out to 512 cubes.

400 >> 512. (4.250" stroke/6.535" rod)Approximate Bobweight: 2140

Back on topic.......

That IS badass if not fra-gyle.
I'd have to set the limiter to 2999

It is about like a diesel. I think she made like 700 ft lbs of torque at 3500 rpm so no need to buzz her up. Lol the problem is that with these hydraulic roller cams and low bob weight they rev quick !

It is done ! Update !

Finally had some time to update the completion of the car. I think the details should still be at the top of the thread. I decided to drive it home to Falling Waters, West Virginia instead of trailering it or having it shipped. I figured why not. Beautiful fall days and a nice car. Sounds like a fun weekend. I flew into into Des Moines on Thursday Oct 23 and had my daughter take me to the shop in Carroll. Benton and the guys had the car all ready detailed and ready to go.The car looks stunning in person and the pics just do not do it justice. Hard to describe but every part of the car turned out great. The engine as you can see in the video runs awesome. Paint and Body is excellent. Interior is beautiful. All very nice work. Just cant say enough about Benton and his guys and the work they do. Excellent shop with people that know Mopars.

So Thursday night Benton had promised me we would have a steak grilled by a friend of his that owns a restaurant in town. He knew I am a big eater so I had to put down a 3 lb Ribeye. One of the best steaks I have ever ate !Took the car home later that evening and got ready the following morning for the first leg of the trip. Carroll Iowa to Fairbank, Just North ofWaterloo. About a 3 hour drive. Car ran great and performed as it should.Only problem was it started to rain and the beautiful detail job was done for.Worst part was I had about 3/4 of gravel road to get to my sisters house. Oh and it really likes gas. I mean really likes gas.

Got started early Friday morning on the 2nd leg of the trip with a slight headache. (Party at my sisters). My plan was to make it past Chicago a ways so my day on Saturday wouldn't be so long. Weird morning for weather very humid on a late fall day. Car ran great but I noticed it was making a little more noise, couldn't put my finger on it tho. Right outside of a truck stop near Cedar Rapids, it made a thunk and the noise went away. Luckily I was basically right on an exit so I pulled into a large truck stop. Fan belt had broken. Very odd as the pulley alignment looked great, no wobbles in the water pump or idler.Weird. Road side service had me back on the road in an hour. That must be a record. No issues with it the rest of the trip. I ended up putting a 1/2 inch smaller belt on it. I think the other one may have been a touch long and was at the end of adjustment and then stretched. Made it past Chicago by about 8 p.m.that night. The car will cruise at any speed but with the 3.55 gears, anythingover about 65 or 70 resulted in watching the gas gage move literally.

2nd leg started bright and early and basically was just a 9 hour drive through to West Virginia. Beautiful scenery and lot's of thumbs ups !. Best part about the car is idling up to a gas station and opening up the cut outs. The car does not have a big cam in it but you can tell it means business with 496 cubes.

Again just can't say enough about Benton and the shop He really is a good guy and working hard to grow his business. I also have a 68 Coronet there that isgetting a little more serious power but that is another story. Thanks Benton !

Some pics below.......One thing I plan to change is to go with a larger rear wheel and tire. Proably a 295-45-18 if it will fit. The 17 x 7 looks good on the front I think...
