US Tax Payer ROI

In case anyone wants to actually read a thorough evaluation of the consequences of the bailout, here is at least one news article that discusses a recent report from the Center for Automotive Research with their summary. The CAR is a widely funded organization so that bias from particular interests is minimized. It is much more balanced than one guy's video slanting all the facts from a non-existent baseline.

Also, Autoweek named its best new car and truck of the year award, and that went to the Chevrolet Corvette and the new Silverado pickup. They were both designed in the U.S. This would not have happened without cleaning out the bad management at GM, and that was done in almost one fell swoop through the bankruptcy. The first woman to be CEO of an automobile company ever anywhere in the world was also appointed this last week to take over at GM, replacing Dan Akerson who left early because his wife has cancer. I met with the new CEO once on a technical topic involving the Chevrolet Volt years ago and I must say she was astonishingly capable. She is also an engineer and a "car guy". They are in good hands. And over a million jobs were saved. This is a world industry now.

No problem Stan.

Soundcraftsman power amps were used by major bands for live concert performances and are still sought after by musicians worldwide.

I have had mine since 1984.

The SAE (Scientific Audio Electronics) Preamplifier/Equalizer that I have can drive two of those power amps simultaneously.

I have entertained parties on football fields in Germany with my equipment.

What does this have to do with unions? There YOU go again... You SO want to jump on that bandwagon.

UAW, that's what it has to do with it. Nothing to do with you or the teamsters but it has an awful lot to do with unions.

And, calm down, Francis. ;)

The next time it becomes absolutely mandatory for you to achieve happiness because you broke your balls earning the money to buy that $3,000.00 stereo, remember that the only way you can piss away $3,000.00 "because it's your right" is because that stereo used to cost $6,000.00. Make it cheaper so I can consume more. I'm already fat but I have to get fatter or I will not be happy. Absolutely nobody needs a $3,000.00 stereo. You would do less damage to our long term security by putting a thousand dollar bill in an envelope and just mail it directly out of the country. You just prevented $2,000.00 from leaving the country and your life has not been made worse by one iota.

Sorry, it's more like a $5,000 stereo & it's made in France.

Really it's no wonder. My Uncle was an electrician at the GM plant in Ohio. As a kid, we would visit each year during Thanksgiving. He was always sucking up triple time. Any chance he got. Can't blame him.

And we all watched the video and this forum on our Chinese made devices!!!!!!! We are all to blame!

Find me a US made computer and monitor and I'll buy it the next time I am in the market for one, regardless of price.

ON a smaller scale when I had the C body t shirts made up they were Made in America shirts....... ( accept for Bobs) I would rather buy the flag and the colors than save a nickel.

What does this have to do with unions? There YOU go again... You SO want to jump on that bandwagon. Keep your eyes on the road, man.
I never mentioned anything about unionism or non-unionism. Has nothing to do with it.
You love to jump on that bandwagon because I am a Teamster. My being in the union has nothing to do with it. But you relieve yourselves of any of the burden of blame by holding up a red herring that insures diversion and and deflecting any mud on your face by going on fake offensive. Which is a very unintelligent way to make a point.
This is an issue where you have to look in the mirror and listen to yourselves talking out of both sides of your mouths thinking you can justify your thinking. Everyone.

But Stan, didnt you pull those quotes from the Union thread?.... just asking...........

Like rats leaving a sinking ship ?
They just announced pulling all the Chinese Chevrolet crap off the German market leaving it for their German GM branch of Opel. Only the "special interest" cars like Camaro and Corvette, Cadillac left. European and especially German buyers will not become accustomed to these Chinese Chevrolets.
That being said Volkswagen and others already have plants over there as well where they're building the regular models for Chinese market.

Say what??? Look at the VIN of ANY car or truck built since 1981 worldwide, and you will see the place of origin in the FIRST character of that VIN. For something truly built in China, you will see an "L" there. GM is building Buicks and Chevrolets in China for the Chinese market (Buick is the second most popular vehicle make there, BTW), but the Chinese are not exporting GM vehicles anywhere in the West. You have a link to an article about this???

And there it is...
if you actually dare to look in the mirror without blinders or rose colored glasses.

and you are in front of the line Stan
I, too, am in line with 98% of everybody that should be in line. The other 2% are isolated Bhuda monks in the Himalayas. God bless them. They got it right. They're laughing at us and they are too polite to do it out loud.

I have Crutchfield banner ads with pictures of Focal speakers. Now that's capitalism, congrats.

Crutchfield could ***** & moan about how things used to be OR, they can evolve & continue to kick *** & dominate. Congrats to Crutchfield. Great American success story.

Evolve or die.

When I did union work at the Great Lakes Naval base in Il, they had t-shirts with military logos and sayings, I went to buy one until I saw the tag that said it was made overseas, along with uniforms of the military after talking to the cadets. This is not a union, non-union debate anymore in America. Like I have always said from the beginning, If you get up every morning and give 100% you should make a livable wage. I believe in America and will always continue too. Be careful what you consider skilled and not skilled, is driving a big rig as skilled as welding chrome- moly heat treated pipe, or nailing shingles to a roof, or catching a criminal. The only way we will make America better is if we all understand that a honest days work deserves an honest days pay.

GM is the second largest automaker in the world, and for that to continue they much invest in China (the worlds' largest auto market) and other parts of the world with world class products. Toyota (the worlds' largest automaker) builds cars in the U.S. because it is less expensive than making them in Japan and shipping them here. It is a competitive cost issue. So it is with GM in China. The bailout meant that GM remains an American company headquartered in the U.S., where their profits will have the greatest impact. With no bailout, other companies would have taken GM's place, and then we would not have those profits or high quality jobs here. GM will make money in China and we will be better off for it. This is not exporting jobs to China.

So no one is concerned about the export of NA jobs to the far east?
