Valve cover gaskets

Dammit. What is this?!? I've been using Blue RTV all this time, on every car I've had--with great success, and now everyone else says they never do--with great success. Jeez I feel like a freak'n idiot. I don't suppose Permatex will refund me,lol.

I've had several sets of the Mopar Performance valve covers and never had a problem with them warping and not sealing properly.

I checked with the 440 Source company (who make some nice heads and other Mopar parts) about a month ago as to why their gasket sets contained the cork gaskets instead of the Felpro heavy duty or Mopar gaskets. Their answer surprised me, as they said they always get a much better seal with the cork than anything else. It is just a pain though when you have to service it since it usually has to be scraped off in small pieces and doesn't last as long either. With the aluminum Mopar valve covers though, probably any gasket would work fine since it is a sturdy cover, unlike the stamped steel original ones.

I think your better off using rtv, with whatever gasket, with the mopar performance covers. Being heavy cast covers, they don't bend, or flex with the mating surface of the head, like the original steal ones do. I know mine have some gaps on each end of the heads, even with the gaskets in place. Once you try to torque the bolts down to close the gaps "crack"!... There goes the valve cover.... Just my $.02

I've always used RTV because it's always worked for me AND I thought it was the proper procedure. No bigger pain in the ***. I bet than having to re-seal valve covers. I'm having a ***** of a time right now trying to get the old gasket material off mine right now.

I recently used JUST permatex ultra black gasket maker and its sealed tight with no leaks. Didnt have the extra cash for the gaskets unfortunately...
