vintage style wiper blades

I'm thinking that I have a set of 16" arms w/blades around here somewhere too. I'll have to look to verify.

OK, so according to my research, 2889859 is the correct part number for a 2-door Plymouth full size in 70. They were ANCO.

Here's a picture of a NOS set that is currently selling on eBay for $500.

That's not the correct style. Those are bayonet style, you should have a pin mount.

So these look correct then.

I really don't remember the red buttons on them.

IIRC, the ones I saw on the cars back then were Tricos.

If I find the spares I think I have, I'll see what they look like but the ones on my car currently are stamped Anco but have black buttons, not red. Does anyone know if red or black was correct or if either is correct?

Thanks

Well, that's an interesting question. I just received a photo from someone who is selling a NOS wiper blade. You can clearly see on the box the 2889859 part number and I don't really see any red buttons on this one. It also appears to be broken.

Yea, this looks like the issue of this wiper blade was probably a warranty recall because it broke, someone put it back in the box of the replacement so they could get credit and it got left on the shelf for a zillion years, now someone is trying to sell it as NOS.

So after spending a day snd a half trying to find a vintage 16" trico or anco wiper blade for my 70-300 I have come to the conclusion there isn't a cheap repop available. The anco 2889859 refill changes up to something other than the satin finish metal blade.(20-16 anco #) The longest Trico I can find is 33-150 15" in the correct style.(Napa # 60-1537) so.......what is everyone doing for correct blades on their fuseys??

I got a set at the local parts store, refills.
Trico 43-160
CarQuest 453-160

Functioning but different than the originals.
Trico 44-160
CarQuest 454-160

Alan

These numbers are for the REFILLS and do not include the frame, these should still be available, I recently got some off ebay.

Check out your local junkyard/farmers field, all the big cars of that era had them. The Eldorados had 17 inch.

What's on my "70 DH43, the insert measures 17" from end to end. Bayonet style, no "wing". Didn't check for "buttons", or color thereof. When the articulated lh arm was introduced, it seems that the blade lengths got a little longer?

From my experience of dealing with GM wiper blade assys, about the only way to get a correct blade is to get some from a salvage yard that are CORRECT for the car AND haven't been changed to something more modern. Then refinish with the dull silver paint, as desired, from te repro parts people (or close match). Even if you order the correct original number (which might still show to be good!), they'll send something "newer" that "will fit" rather than what you really wanted, with the original part number on the part box.

Anco and Trico blades were interchangeable, as a general rule. Had to see the name stamping to know what was what. Might be differences in how they were retained in the blade housing?

In looking at used wiper blade (not inserts), look to make sure that some gerilla hasn't tweaker them when trying to replace the inserts, somewhere along the line.
