I've finally straightened out the A/C system fuster cluck that was handed to me on my '67 Newport.

Now I want to change all the O-rings. This is foreign territory for me.
I count over a dozen O-rings in this system of varying sizes.
I went searching for a complete O-ring kit for this specific model but there is none.
All I can find is universal kits with varying fit-all sizes. I'm pretty sure any of these kits won't have all the O-rings I need. Too many of one plus ones not for my car, none or not enough of another, etc... I also don't want to pull all the O-rings out and then try and figure out what I have and then try to figure out where to get them.
The FSM doesn't narrow it down to this level

Who knows enough about O-rings to educate me?

That depends on if you are going to the R134A rerfrigerant. The R134A is lubricated through the system, R12 has the lubrication in the pump. I will assume you are going with the new stuff. The o-rings are specific to that type of refridgerant. Also the molecules are smaller in the R134A which might seep through your old hoses. It is not as efficiant as the R12, and needs higher head pressure for the same amount of cooling. So, back to your question about orings, I would get a large universal set that is compatable with R134A. Good luck Stan.

Yes, it will be R134A or some synthetic.
I am trying to avoid the universal sets. Some of the larger sets go for as much as a hundred dollars.
I'd hate to have to buy that simply because it may have the one O-ring the others don't.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I want to buy a bunch of "x" O-rings, a bunch of "y" O-rings, and a bunch of "z" O-rings and not have a kit with 988 O-rings left over that are useless to me. Plus one O-ring that that kit didn't have that I needed...

Basically, I'm crying like a little girl here asking someone to tell me to go to AcmeOring.com and buy a set of 10 P/N xxxx-1 O-rings, a set of 10 xxxy-2 O-rings, abd a set of 10 zxxx-3 O-rings for a dollar ninety-eight...

I've heard all the stories about needing different O-rings and hoses when converting to R134. But i'm not convinced it's all true. I cleaned, inspected and soaked all my original O-rings in ATF before reinstalling them in Jazebelle. Used all OEM hoses. I installed a new receiver dryer and made a dip stick to check the compressor oil level, (as per the FSM).

I them evacuated the system using a vaccuum pump for a day. and the system held 12 in of vaccuum for an additional 2 days. I then introduced the R134 freon until the sight glass no longer showed bubbles.

Works fine. I think R12 will likely bring the cooling temp a little lower but the car cools of nicely even in 95 degree weather.

WTF?
Hell, Will. If I got them all out anyway.....
Didn't we lose a Space Shuttle due to an O-ring once?

Like you stan, I looked all over for replacement O-rings. I bought a assortment set but they were just ..... different. I had two A/C cars to rob parts from so I took the best looking O-rings and went with them.... No shuttle disasters yet.

Now I can't find the crush gasket to replace when I remove the EPR valve.
Only place I found it is NAPA and they will only sell it in packages of ten plus shipping so it comes to aboput $20.00. I only need one dammit :BangHead::BangHead:

commando1 if you can post a pic of the crush gasket. i might have what you need is it black and made of metal. i bought a box of like ten for a couple dollars.your welcome to one if its what you need.

Maybe it takes 20 to get it right......?

The honorable way used to be that they ordered the ten pack, sold you one for a couple of bucks, and put the other nine on the shelf. Those days are gone....

The computor inventory system can't handle the overload.

I DO have to give some credit to the cluck behind the counter.
I knew it was available from NAPA because I found it online.
After the initial "Make, Model, Year, Engine" pony show showed no such thing, he did ask more questions. Enough so that he did find it buried in the deep bowels of their computer system. On the other hand, I did have to push him...

Crazyboutwagons: here's a pic of the gasket, btw...
