When was the last production day for C-Bodies?

Seriously guys?
Are we trying to determine to the HOUR the last Formal was built? :realcrazy:
I'm learning a lot because of this thread ( :thankyou: ) but even the OCD anal part of me is starting to worry about you guys.

Thanks for your thoughts about my health!

Once we have multiple MDHs for June 24th we can start worrying about the last hour. I am however wondering what a normal day shift looked like back in 1978.

I dont know if you have my 78 NYB info?

Its 2 VIN numbers behind the one you have listed. So I would assume it could be 2 cars away on the assembly line possibly.

Do you know who owns 149423?

This is nothing. You should have seen the TEN page thread on correct wing nuts for the A12 air cleaners. No joke. Ten pages. On wing nuts.

All I know is that is was for sale at Randy Cavender Motorcars, Raleigh, NC. Searching for "CS43T8C149423" still turns up pictures, but the car is not available.

How close the two cars were together on the assembly line depends on the info on your door sticker. 149423 has MDH 020812. And 149425?

Now there are two of them, one built in September 1977, the other in May, 1978. Both were Newports, by the way.

An update of the Late C-Bodies List, because of a car recently sold at Orlando Classic Cars:

CS43T8C173849, SPD XXX, MDH 060510
CL43N8C175464, SPD 606, MDH 051011
CS23N8C175963, SPD 606, MDH XXXXXX (sold at Orlando Classic Cars)
CS43N8C178624, SPD 612, MDH XXXXXX
CS43T8C178820, SPD 606, MDH 060908
CS23XXXXXXXXX, SPD 619, MDH 061611
CS23T8C181510, SPD 619, MDH XXXXXX (same as CS23XXXXXXXXX?)
CS43T8C181574, SPD 619, MDH 062011
CS43T8C181591, SPD 619, MDH 052212
CS43T8C182748, SPD 626, MDH 061309 (the last Canadian car)
CS23T8C183615, SPD 626, MDH 061413

@Caper: CS23XXXXXXXXX, SPD 619, MDH 061611 is/was your car. Do you have the complete VIN handy?

FWIW, to this day (and in 1978), 6 AM is the start of Chrysler's 1st shift. Working before that gets you 3rd shift OT (10%)

I've whined enough. What would YOU like me to write about?
First thanks for your thoughtful replies and please excuse my negligent followup. To answer your question I'd recommend rereading your post since IMHO each one of the points you made could be a chapter title. For example you have pointed out mistakes identified in other books. A whole chapter could be dedicated to clearing up previously published misinformation. Another example would be analysing the documentation related to identifying build date and time. As you mention in your previous post some documents are unobtanium for certain years but there are many "experts" out there spewing misinformation that need to be debunked. You would be providing the definitive reference guide for future generations of Mopar enthusiasts. You likely have more than enough rare documentation examples squirrelled away in your archives to make some informative illustrations in a book. The book could be a collaboration between you and Bill Watson.

FWIW, to this day (and in 1978), 6 AM is the start of Chrysler's 1st shift.

So the hour range documented so far by 1978 MDHs is from 6 AM to 3 PM (see post #311). When did the day shift usually end?

If you start at 6 am, your 8.5 hour day ends at 2:30 pm (8 hrs + 30 min unpaid lunch). However, 6:30 is ‎also a typical start time, so they would leave at 3 pm.
There are several reasons... 6 am workers might come in to start up machinery, bring stock to the line, etc. 6:30 am might be when the line starts moving. Another good reason is so you don't have 3000 people heading to the parking lot at the same time

This car:

CS23T8C118672 (MDH 100715)

has been finished between 3 and 4 PM. So THAT is overtime in a one-shift-per-day situation?

Are there not also two relief breaks in the course of a shift. IIRC, Chrysler opted to shut the line down for these breaks instead of doing tag relief and keeping the line going?

I never know who to believe . My uncle worked in the Belvedere plant in the 60s into the 70s . He had said that the build date on the tag was gospel. Yet, everyone else says otherwise.

MY 78 Newport MDH is 051506.

I was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army by then....1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment.
