Where does this vac line go?

Under the dash on the pass side, looks like the PO stuck a green wire in it to plug it I guess

My 1970 Monaco is the same way. Factory a/c. Best I could figure out is that the area between the wire strands acts like a very small vac bleed for the hvac control system. The green wire in my car is only a few inches long, at best.

When I bought my car used, it was 5 yrs old and completely unmolested. No evidence of any prior owner "changes" or alterations.

Seems like the hvac vac hose routing, in the FSM, terms the end of that vac hose as a "vac bleed"?

FREE-Download a 1970 Dodge factory service manual at www.mymopar.com. Head to the a/c section and the vac hose routing illustration in particular.

Enjoy!

It’s supposed to be that way. I saw that in my car, Shamu (69 Fury III vert) and it’s factory.

Factory service manual will be very helpful for you to repair.

so that green wire thingy is supposed to be sticking out of a vacuum line? Is there something electrical in there?

Yes, it’s supposed to be there.

I don’t recall the function, except it might create a small vacuum leak so that when you turn the the car off, all of the vacuum in the accumulator (vacuum tank) escapes and any actuators (there are 3) bleed off and return to their normal or relaxed state.

So it's normal for that green wire to just hang there in space like that? Looks pretty strange but I'm new to the Mopar world so anything's possible

Many times, there are some things which seem to defy logic, BUT if there was some harmonic the engineering team detected that they wanted to control, sometimes the simplest way to do it, inexpensively, works better than a full-blown "new part".

Look at some of GM's air conditioning lines of the 1960s. Coils of rubber pressure hoses, whereas Chrysler used metal lines fastened to the fender. GM wasn't doing that because they got a better price for buying more rubber hoses, they were chasing a harmonic that was present in a shorter line, but not a longer one. So they spent those extra dimes to do that and it NOT impact assembly complexity (which has money costs involved).

Some things make sense, some don't. A variable situation.

Enjoy!

On my Monaco, it was hidden under the carpet, so not visible. Until I started seeing where it went, as it was of the high-silicone rubber hose of the a/c actuator lines, and knowing there was nothing in that area that line should be going to.

So hide it under the carpet. Easy to do. Out of sight, out of mind.

Happy Holidays!

Weirdest thing is that it's an actual piece of wire, copper center and all as seen in the pic

Well it turns out that my heat is stuck coming out of the dash, can't get it to go down to the floor. Worked when I first got the car, so something went screwy. All vac lines seem to be connected properly

Verify that the HVAC mode switch is operating correctly as well as the vacuum actuators.
Looks like you’re going to have to walk through that video with your equipment.

I don’t remember if your car is the same, but that should help.

Thx for the vid
Mine just has a shiny black plastic vac tank under the hood (near the front corner) which goes straight to the firewall and under the dashboard. One vac line from engine to vac tank and 1 from tank into the firewall. No water valve (has a manual valve setup) or time delay thingy

You can see the setup on the pass side in this pic. The vac line that I assume was for the water valve is hanging loose (capped off with a screw)

then you need to decide whether you are going to understand and repair the existing ‘roll your own’ configuration or bite the bullet and get your HVAC system operating correctly, how Ma MoPar designed it to operate…. Your choice.

Getting the factory system operating properly is a bit of a challenge, but you can do it. There’s a lot of great information on this forum and people who will help you.

Gotcha :)
So what's there now is not factory, other than the water valve?

I have no idea what you have other than you have stated that the mix valve is not there and something has replaced it.

You need to own this, understand what is there, what’s supposed to be there, what has been added and do the math…
