Where was this Mopar Brochure/Ad Photo shot?

#399. Where is the 1960 DeSoto?

Three folks came in with correct answers. Any of them can weigh in with their successful efforts to solve this one if they want.

The location is the McGregor Conference Center, on the campus of Wayne State University, 495 Ferry (Gilmour) Mall, Detroit, MI. Built in 1958, designed by Minoru Yamasaki, who also designed the "Twin Towers" in NYC.

I have been here many times. Really neat structure inside and out. Still going strong in continuously in use today.

Sometimes I wish I has kept my fathers architectural book collection, not sure I would have found this that way.
Connecting the two was harder than finding it, figured the architect was the key, when I saw the name I knew the connection.

Where is the BMW?

Its not a BMW corporate ad but a co-promotional deal between BMW and a private company.

Three correct answers needed.

1. US City?
2. Exact location address in that city?
3. The exact location, by happenstance, is IN a "related" thread in "General Discussion" forum on FCBO, thread started in August 2022. What thread?

One & Two are easy, Three is easy if ya think about the history of this thread and that August 2022 one -- and a little patience to pluck location out.

PM if you wanna confirm a three part guess. Answer Sunday if no one gets it.

I really enjoy this game! Thank you once again @amazinblue82 for making me stretch my brain a bit. I sent you a PM with my answers….

Proof to my fellow sleuths that this one is able to be found…. Same location, different time day.

yup... when I "reverse-engineered" my way as a player to test a solution path, this is where i got the place. just different time of day.

sleuthin' out #3? looking forward to how ya got that part right. that was a bit twisty..

:)

I flew up there,
#3, looking back at that thread I must have glazed over that picture, certainly didn't follow the link.
(442)

Alan
we'll I didn't know that kinda precision was possible. google musta drivin their camera car up there OR you "zoomed" in through the structure?

anyway, you "landed" right where the BMW was parked it looks like (as measured against the structure itself and the skyline. Yeah, #442 addresses #3 perfectly.

Bravo boss.

Once I figured out the location, I used the advanced search feature on this FCBO site. Typed in [the city] but then added August 2022 to the ‘no later than’ section. That got me to post 413 in [that thread] where it mentions the city, and road where this structure is located…. So I thought I nailed it! But I went back and looked at post 442 on [that theead] after @MrMoparCHP mentioned it and it is clear as day there. But I did get the thread so I think that gets a half point. (As if we keep score).

hey boss .. the #399 game was to get the thread, not necessarily to the post IN the thread :). The address isnt IN that post -- just the link TO the source of location.

Your "nighttime" pic is in a site that has BOTH the structure and the night shot (see PM i just sent you) -- proves there was more than one way to "skin the cat"

I tried hard to "stump" you cats ( stated another way, make a more challenging game). If its too hard, people just wont bother. same if its too easy.

We don't keep score .. this is just friendly stuff.

You did find, however, the only TWO games that went unsolved for years. Others may have too .. but they didnt report that they did.

I am honestly amazed though by the stuff you dudes can find though. thanks for your time (and the others who took the time to play)!

#404. Where is the BMW and where in FCBO was this location previously posted?

source: 1111 | 1111 Lincoln Road in the "events" section of the site

This one was intended one of the harder ones. Two folks reported the solutions. So, Dudes with "Gold Stars" are hereby awarded. :)

The BMW as at 1111 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, FL. Luxury digs (apartments go for tens of millions) with residential, retail, and it is a parking structure.

The architecturally-themed thread, where the location was posted, is here as started August 2022 by @ayilar. One route to solve this game could have lead to the same place just different time of day.

With that, I am gonna "retire" again from this thread a a "game-runner" at least. Will pick it up in the spring next year. Hope it goes on in the meantime if anybody wants to.

Thanks for taking the time everyone. Happy Holidays!

Different game. Its a contest.

First one with answers all the questions "wins". Every solver wins a "dude" award.

Usually less than 10 folks report tend to play. Of that 2-3 report they solved it. Many more participate silently judging by the # of views vs. the # of actual posts.

Game "etiquette" has been when you get it, you can just say you got it, that holds your place among the solvers, and then we let others try to solve it.

These are harder, unless you're from there they tend demand more computer usage, manipulation of geography tools, and cover worldwide locations. No solving rules. Use Google/Edge/whatever browser anything/any way you want to answer the questions.

If you want to confirm your solution/offer alternative, or disagree with the OP and have a different solution, I will answer you by PM as soon as I can.

I'll do a few and see if anybody joins in. Answers posted Thurdsay.

Where are these 2022 Volkwagens parked?

map1AA.png

Three hints and questions to answer.

1. Parking spot is within city limits of a large Southeast US city. What city?
2. Parking spot looks like a vehicle "parking lot" but that is not its priimary use. What is location's primary usage?
3. Parking spot has a "Mopar" name but absolutely no Mopar connection. How did that name happen?

PM if you want to check a guess. Answer Thursday (2 days from now).

I think I know.

I love this game!

Guessed on the city…. Got it right. That got me to where the cars are parked. I even think in took a ride in a ‘vehicle’ from this same location once.

I need to keep digging on the name.

Thanks for posting @amazinblue82
