Where was this Mopar Brochure/Ad Photo shot?

Here is one from a 73 Chevrolet brochure.
This one might be a challenge as there is no Street View to confirm it (from this spot), you can go into town and find structures on the other side of the bay.
Don't recall how difficult it was for me to locate.

Wow! I forgot about those cars. So frigg'n' ugly, look like Puffer fish.

New Game (last one for me till spring next year as an OP).

1959 Pontiac Catalina.

In case it wasnt immediately recognizable, this is a Fitzpatrick & Kaufmann illustration. Beautiful artwork.

This is a drawing, done FROM pictures of actual vehicles (or actual cars in a studio sometimes) DRAWN INTO a physical location recreated FROM pictures. So, many times the exotic locations Fitz & Kaufman placed the cars in ad illustrations where the car NEVER actually was.

The automaker was trying to create a "lifestyle image" for their customers. "Drive our car, and you too could be cool, cultured, "bon-vivant' like this person".

1. Location of this 1959 Pontiac?
2. Is this structure still there or not? If yes, post a picture along with the location currently, If not, just the location at some time in the past is good.

Unless you recognize the location, digital search skills are likely necessary. Good luck if you try. Its higher on the difficulty scale than most of these games.

Answer mid-week.

two three solvers.

maybe somebody will give it a hack.

ecall, this game gets solved "by any means necessary". And, there's always "something" in pic, or the clues, on the internet, or in peoples' heads/travels, to get 'em.

answer thursday AM EDT.

Cheating….. naw! Use all the tools in your tool box.

I am always impressed when some of the folks say things like…. “Been there multiple times. Ate breakfast in that lobby. Had drinks with colleagues there”.

I got it using Goggle lens. That’s probably cheating.
naming the girls? googling the pic is "cheating". because its really no challenge in the digital age to identify faces, music, etc, with direct searches.

These places? a lotta stuff looks alike (basic architecture same everywhere sometimes), and many things dont even come up in a direct search. some do.

But we (the collective here who play have said, anyway), are history buffs in a way. Hell, we dig/collect 40-70+ year old cars.:poke:

Finding these ad locations is virtually impossible --- unless you've been there and seen them with your own eyes -- without using "any means necessary". Even then, still could be a challenge for many of us who have been lucky to have been to/seen lots of places.

its cool if someone wants to "rough it out" without internet search tools, trying to find ad locations on the other side of the world, or even in your own hometown.

shoot, not me ... could take forever and who's got that kinda time/patience? Heck, i google the s**t outta these places, and sometimes STILL can't find them .

these locations? lotta interesting history with some of them. I like that kinda stuff anyway.

"googling the pic" is definitely not "cheating" in this ad game. To the contrary, its probably a "necessity".

#702. Carlton Hotel, Cannes France (on the French Riviera).

1730381093987.png

Built in 1913, by a grandson of the Tsar of Russia (Grand_Duke_Michael_Alexandrovich_of_Russia) as a love nest for him and his "commoner (non-royal blood)" main squeeze.

Because he was banished from the luxo-digs of the Russian royalty, he built this joint (always was a hotel, neo-classical architecture, one of the first on the Riviera. which wasn't a "thing" yet) in Cannes with his own money.

BTW, at the links above, fascinating re: these pre-revolution Russian royals, if you ever wanna nerd out on this building during what was a key era in world history.

Luxurious by then, and even today's standards, the Carlton is quite the place. Obviously still there today, though parts of it remodeled/updated over the century.

I have seen it in person in a drive-by along the coast road its on. Never stayed there nor ever been inside. :(

Fitz and Kaufman put a lot of Pontiacs on the Riviera and other exotic French locations, including Paris.

Did it sell Pontiacs back in the day? Dunno, but it made cool art.

Recently I went through the Cool "Car Art" Illustrations thread looking at pictures that may be locatable and saved a bunch.

First up doesn't have much to go on but is a real place, the detail in the picture seamed more photograph than illustration so it seamed plausible to locate.

This is in the North East and is one of many stone bridges in the area.

Let me add, the difficulty factor is in locating the bridge in the area.

i believe i have it. In the "park", yes?

if so, neat old structure. been to the state, but not this far north.

Love to go there one day, especially this time of year (fall colors).

Yes, but where?

In looking for this I found this location which looks like a place to visit.

I do believe this is a contemporary bridge compared to the others in the area.

if game runs that long, i'll send you a PM when i get home Sunday and can do a proper recon of the environs and send a pic of the one i think it is.:)

sent you a PM with best I got. I am 99% sure... even had me counting bricks in the bridge :poke:

neat game. look forward to the real solution whenever you post it.
Same thing I did.

For me the challenge was locating this bridge. When I was initially looking for this one my tools led me to a bunch of pictures of this bridge but with no reference to where it was or to a different bridge.

There are +/-20 some odd stone bridges in this park.

Current view of the correct bridge.

Acadia NP is my favorite place to visit- I’ve viewed those bridges on the park loop road -as well as the carriage trails - a truly amazing place
