Where was this Mopar Brochure/Ad Photo shot?

Clues.

1. Its NOT NYC, or Detroit, or San Francisco, or Louisville, any other city where "puzzles" got solved in this thread, and it is in the United States.
2. This location still exists, though I'm not sure you can park right here anymore.
3. "8" (yes, the clue is "eight")

I happened to know this place on sight. Others of you may as well, but if not, if your search takes more than an hour without success, you may wanna reconsider the pursuit strategy :)

PM me if you wanna validate your guess but let it run. Answer posted Sunday morning if not solved.

Bon chance.

My swan song before "retiring" as game show host for a few weeks.

Over two weeks of working on these two (about 6 hours of searching in total) and I cannot solve these.

I found NOTHING in either of these photos that was helpful despite high hopes for them initially as challenging but solvable locations.

They are just too VAGUE therefore too HARD -- for me at least. I declared "No Mas"!

But one of you may have more success? So, pick one, pick both, don't try -- your choice of course. :)

We'll just let them staying in this thread forever as a mystery if they don't get solved. Good luck.

At first glance, I suspect the Corvette ad would be easier to locate.

yep i agree.

the '86 Vette background is some sorta "wall art" i believe ... pastels and attire suggested to me Florida or Southern California in mid 80's. i thought it would be easy to find it.

the '78 Dippy background has an address and a business sign - "The Moody Gallery" - but no luck matching that business name/address with that building. i thought it would be like the SF deal with the Olds.

of the two -- unless it was staged against a portable canvas painting -- the Vette is more "solvable".

The wall art looks like a bridge railing to me.

three people have already solved post #101 game with the Imp. i will recognize them at the end -- which will be tonight 9/29. :)

The wall art looks like a bridge railing to me.

i thought that too -- a bridge or a parking structure -- before i gave up..

"wall art" was my only frame of reference as i've seen that stuff all over world on buildings.

that inherent bias could have lead me astray ... cutting off my search angles.

The wall art looks like a bridge railing to me.

upon reflection, and cuz I hate givin' up, I am gonna follow this bridge thing.

you're right.. there is a "curvature" of a railing of some sort, and on the street - I put arrows on the uphill and downhill sides.

but the sky looks "funny" between the railing posts down to the street -- like its "fake" somehow?

I found the original ad .. it was a magazine piece introducing the 1986 'Vette convertible after several years absent from the lineup.

66-72-22.jpg

i also thought the people were drawings .. but they are not. that starts to rule out a static art piece drawn on a building which was the trail i followed.

I wonder though if that guy is sitting on a real bridge railing, well he is ONE daring dude to be doing that :)

that leads me back to a "set" of some sort .. i.e., a staged shot that we'll never find again.

The location was correctly identified by 300rag, 65sporty, and dobalovr.

The 1960 Imp is parked in front of the United States Supreme Court Building in Washington DC.

The clues.

1. Self evident now. Washington DC. Contemplation of Justice statue on the left near where the Imp was parked, Authority of Law statue on the right.

2. Self evident now -- Its still there. I have seen it from that plaza in front .. never been inside the building. Again, i don't think you can drive a vehicle up on that plaza now. Actually, I don't see how they got it up there in '60 -- unless with ramps on the lower set of front stairs?

3. "8". The number of Justices after Scalia died. Guess we'll see in few months who the new Justice will be.

Thanks for playing the game :)

New game.

Three clues:

1. Its east of the Rocky Mountains, West of the Mississippi River in the United States.
2. This bridge spans a river that runs through this city.
3. "1" (yes, the clue is "one")

A correct answer is City, State, and where in that city.

I guessed this place and happened to be correct (after a google search to refresh a tired memory confirmed a hunch) having been there a couple of times about 20 years ago. I didn't know the street so I had to figure that out.

PM me if you wanna validate your guess but let it run. Answer posted Wednesday next week if not solved.

Bon chance.

This one is from Post #175 in Vintage Chrysler Ads thread.

Clues.

1. Its in the United States.

2. Sort of still exists -- but any day now it wont.

3. "The Boss's" second home.

Super easy one folks - So, somebody just post the answer as soon as you know it .. if you want.

Then, if you've been there, what was it for? Me? Late 1988 - "just to tell you once again, who's bad" :)

Indeed. :) Thanks 65sporty

Clues.

1. Los Angeles Memorial Arena
Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena - Wikipedia

2. Being razed as I write if not done already
Watch The Demolition Of L.A.'s Famed Sports Arena In Real Time

3. Springsteen played there 30 or 40 times.

I saw Michael Jackson there on this "Bad" tour late fall 1988. I ain't a big concert goer ..but it was a good show. I saw a Raiders game there too .. mid 1980's - not at the arena but the Coliseum of course.

Game in post #112. Answer tonight if unsolved. Break a leg.

we have a "winner". clhyer named the city, state, and location in the city. He's never been there, so maybe he can regale us as to how he solved this one?

Austin Texas, on the S. Congress Ave, on the Ann Richards Bridge. The bridge is over the Colorado River .. yes, Texas has its own Colorado -- distinct from the Colorado River that carved out the Grand Canyon, formed Lake Mead behind the Hoover Dam, etc..

66-73.jpg
66-73-1.jpg

The clues:

1. Self Evident now. Texas is between Rockies and Mississippi River .. so NOT on the Mississippi -- to focus you on the other Midwest cities.

2. The river in Austin is the Texas "Colorado" River. Begins and ends in Texas.
Colorado River (Texas) - Wikipedia

3. "1" -- of the 15 or so states, between the Rockies and the Mississippi, ONE state has ONE star on its flag, Texas, the Lone Star State.

So that clue was designed to help narrow down the states with BIG modern cities on rivers -- Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma -- with the most likely being Texas.

I'll start another game and then I am all out of locations that I know for sure. again, i encourage anyone who wants to "run the game" to put one up.

also its much better IF you know the place beforehand so we can be sure to have the correct answer/seek more clues if needed. :)

New Game. 1959 Chrysler print ad.

First, this drawing is "shopped". But its one city, with its downtown buildings rearranged by the illustrator to disguise the city (for whatever reasons).

Clues.

1. Its a US city East of Mississippi River, North of Ohio River, and West of city of Pittsburgh PA.

2. The placement of the car against this skyline is 100% fiction .. the topography does not, and never did, allow this vantage point.

3. One of the most prominent buildings in the skyline, though re-positioned by the illustrator, is named after a businessman who also started a car company (the car company is long defunct).

Correct answer is city, state of the illustration. You get a tough baby meme.

"Extra credit" if you name the businessman referred to in 3 AND identify which building it is (note, that particular building didn't survive into the 21st century) in the illustration. a second tough baby meme for that answer.

Happy to provide additional clues upon request. PM me if you know the answers but wanna let it run. Answer will be posted this coming Sunday.

This is absolutely my last game ... until/if i can find another suitable photo and I know the location :)

RE: Post 117 - enough clues were provided to find it pretty quickly. I also had the thought that it was the state's capitol building in the pic. So, I google map a couple states to find where the state houses were in relation to a river. Austin, TX came up pretty quickly; and they other clues fit in.

As a side note to the rest of you - I am guessing none of you are from Austin... the Texas state flag was designed in Georgia!
About 25 miles from where I live.

Thanks. Good sleuthing. And I didnt know the Texas flag story had Georgia roots. Cool. :)

My search started in a different way .. I personally saw that view view of what looked like the typical domed "state capitol" looking building, in the distance, and crossing a bridge over a river. I just couldn't recall where.

I didnt remember much about the other buildings on that street (its been 20 years since I was there) .. but the capitol in the distance was seared in my memory. Again i just couldn't recall the state (and i wasn't driving when i was there so i wasnt paying attention to street names etc).

Then, like you did, I searched for "big city capitals near a river" ... and then after a couple iterations (as my half-century old brain cells kicked in a bit i zeroed in on Texas), that brownish building with the "steps" showed up (in the photo i posted) of the Ann Richards bridge in Austin Texas on S. Congress street.

Then a google map search of Austin to find S. Congress, and put Mr. Peg-Man down on the map there, and there it was .. the 300 was shot on the Ann Richards bridge with the state capitol building in the distance.
