Can somebody enlighten me? What kind of engine is this?

Only factory valve covers were stamped steel, painted engine color or chromed (in some years, with a chromed air cleaner many times).

The valve covers are probably from 'Mopar Performance' and that's what it says on them.

Factory assembled on August 19th..... so like about the last motor assembled for the 1971 model year??

As the '71 model year production wrapped up about the middle of July 1971, it's more likely the assembly was in August of 1970 at the beginning of the 1971 model year.

The VIN will give us direction,

Just crawled under the car to make some pictures of the engine.

By the way I picked up the the front seats from the upholstery . All new green leather and vinyl from SMS Fabric. ( had to wait 10 month in total but it was worth it) the upholstery could save the eagle stamped into the leather of the headrest of the bucketseats.

101779 has an SPD of 818 or August 18th. So the 819 assembly date indicates August of 1970 assembly.

Since the assembly date of the numbers matching engine is AFTER the SCHEDULED date, this is one more piece of evidence that cars were not necessarily built on the SPD and that cars were built after the SPD.

Does the car have the original door sticker?

There was only one engine available for the 71 Imperial and that was the E85 T VIN 440-4bbl rated at 335 gross horsepower for 1971.

Thanks for this information, unfortunately there is no door sticker anymore. Maybe the tag will help
