So, as some noticed I inquired about the 78 NY'er sunroof car. There is a few issues with the car however, I am also eyeballing a 77 Newport that is local that is in great shape and has 20,605 miles. This car has A/C and cruise and the A/C needs charged as well but is not Auto Temp II if I had to guess. The asking price is $3900 but, I'm thinking $3000? It has no issues and no rust as well but, is a 4 door. Both are 400 powered. The sunroof car is 1500 miles away so flying to Billings and driving back would the big cost and hurdle. I figure flying in and driving the NY'er home would be about $1000-1200 plus 3-4 days travel time. Thoughts?

Here's the Newport btw.

I would also get shipping quotes on both. If you can find a professional, thorough independent report for around $350. Factor all of the number together and ask yourself if you are purchasing for love of the specific style then go with your emotion. If considering as a investment then purchase that car.

Thanks Pete. The Newport is local to me so I can drive and look at the car or drive it home. I have not looked at the Newport yet because I have not sold my truck yet and I know going to look at that Newport will create an itch lol. The NY'er is a cool car too but, 1500 miles away. The speedometer is a little concerning to me and so is the headlight relay. I don't have a problem driving it home because it is Billings and there is some neat stuff in that area because I use to visit there as I was stationed in Minot for three years.

If there is rust on one and not the other-always go for no rust. Otherwise it`s your call. Each car is cool in its own way.

Nothing wrong with four doors.

If you're worried about the odometer on a car 1500 miles away, that's kind of a big deal if money is tight. I'd get your truck sold, and walk in to the Newport's driveway with 30 hundred dollar bills.

The grill and fixed headlights of the Newport look much better than the New Yorker, IMO. I think the only 2 eye sores on my New Yorker are the covered headlights and the fender skirts (those are coming off and being put safely into storage soon enough, though)

The speedometer isn't a big deal as I have found one online however, pulling the cluster would be a pain when you're on a tight schedule. I'm assuming the speedometer doesn't work or is real bouncy. So, that being said driving the car across MT/ND/SD could get interesting especially trying to use an app on my phone to measure "true" mph out in the middle of a sunflower field with no signal. Anyways, I'm trying to find out if the New Yorker has Autotemp II. I'm assuming being loaded as it is I would think so.

I actually like both styles. I think the NYer looks good with the covered headlights but, the fender skirts are a matter of individual. For me I would store them away.

Body style preference is a very subjective and personal choice. I've always been a sucker for the waterfall grill and generally prefer NYrs.

If I dumped my pair, I'd buy that plain Jain in Sarasota that I posted in the FS section.
THAT'S THE IDEAL Formal. I want it.

I like both of them. The price is right on the NYer but, it equals out almost with the car being local. The other thing with the NYer is it has a sunroof and I am selling a convertible to purchase whatever so it's a catch and take. Just never had an experience with C-Bodys. My best Mopar was a LRE truck.

I personally don't like sunroof cars. I don't have a garage so all of my stuff is parked outside year round.

I don't mind the fact it has a sunroof but, it they are prone to leakage then I don't know. I did find out the car does have ATC II and with the seller mentioning that it might need charged on this system could potentially mean other issues with the ATC II. The other thing about the NY'er is that it does have an aftermarket stereo in the dash albeit an older one but, I like leaving the factory radio in place and mounting a CD player elsewhere. On the Newport I did talk with the owner yesterday. It still has the Lean Burn but, he replaced the computer a few months ago and the A/C does work but, it needs a recharge. It does have a tilt wheel and does have a 8 track tape player that still works. I would like to get the Newport for $3000 but, I think $3500 might be the magic number since the seller is asking more. Now time to clear the truck.

The sunroof car would wind up in my driveway when 2 equal cars are presented. I would suggest a positive and negative chart on both cars, maybe that would help???

That Newport looks pretty tempting! Especially the low mileage and its right in town... the way I would approach it is..offer the guy 3k..go no more than 35...if he bites it was meant to be...if not, go for the NYB. Winter is coming and so is Christmas...i bet he'll go for it. No one wants to store a vehicle thru another winter and he might need cash for the holidays
