Why Torsion Rod Hood Springs?

Does anyone know why Chrysler used Rods instead of regular hood springs? I would think hood springs would have been easier to install,look cleaner and work better.Anyone know anyone who has converted a car over to conventional hood springs? Are parts still available for the roller ends for the original rod system and hinge?

Because Chrysler was all about the torsion bar.

Everything today has a hood you prop up with a rod that makes me feel really, really safe while my head is under there...

I would rather have a gun with blanks under the hood (torsion bars) or a fully loaded one loose springs bouncing around under there.

I actually prefer them on my Imperial and couldn't imagine having the B-body style on it.
