Sure thing.
I could take a 225/6 valiant, throw a nos bottle in the trunk and beat stock 440 cars as long as the bottle held out.
They didn't have NOS in 1973.............

The way Chrysler was going we should be greatfull a diesel /6 didn't become standard by ''78.
It was so bad back then that Ford offered a 2.4L (!!!) I6. diesel in the Continental Mark VII. Anybody remember that? Now wouldn't THAT have been something, lol.
The 4.1 Oldsmobile diesel as well as the infamous 8-6-4 AND the Buick V-6. I had a Coupe Deville with the V6. That freaked people out.I think Cadillac had one as well around these years

Not old enough to remember that, but I'm sure you get my point.
What's astonishing? The 4.1D and the 8-6-4 were unmitigated disasters. Its astonishing they were able to had something like that back in the 80's
A LOT of hassle over just checking off the 440 six pack box...To get a 340 to beat a 440 back in the day was all done by...

Even the modern NorthStar engine was a disaster. Oil consumption. I had a 2002 Deville. I bought it with 18k mile. It would consume (not leak) a quart of oil every 1500 mile and trip the the low oil level red light on the dash. That sh*t drives me absolutely nuts. Took it to the local Cadillac dealer (no longer in business) to validate the oil consumption and after the validation the dealer said it was an acceptable rate of oil consumption..
1969 Chrysler Imperial curb weight - 4,801lbs
vs.
1970 Dodge Challenger curb weight - 3428lbs
only a few hundred pounds??
Uh, really? Any performance in there? Why not a 340?
I just don't know HOW Chrysler got along without you heading up their engineering/production activities in those days. Its a miracle they got as far as they did without throwing 340 motors in Polaras, I mean who would have thought???
