Donny's 1970 300

When I got to Augsburg, the American Krankenhaus was just closed, and, a few years earlier had just been remodeled and rebuilt!

I was there when it reopened.....very nice. There was an Enlisted Club right next to the gate. 203rd MI was on Flak Kaserne too......were they still there when you were there?

I've talked to a lot of guys that were there.

In 1990, we invited the remaining WWII survivors of our Battalion back to Germany for a visit with us and a 45th anniversary reunion in Grafenwohr during our combat maneuvers and live fire of our big guns. They watched our guns crews fire using modern firing procedures. They asked our Commander if they could send a round down range. It was amazing watching those guys crew a gun again. Of course we "safed" the gun by having our Gun Chief verify the sight picture in the sight before letting them pull tail on the big beast. Those guys were in their late 60's and early 70's and they were almost as fast as our 18 year olds...and they were putting steel on target!!! Same damn big bullets and powder that they fired in WWII. We had a lot of respect for those guys....no hydraulics (loader/rammer) back then...all done by hand and it's ball busting work.

I've read tales of the survivers of Normandy Beach.
I never could have done it.
And I've seen some ****.

Ah, the good old days when the USSR and East Germany was just over there...wish those days were back, we would not be in this **** we're in now; endless wars, **** that!

I was up in Stuttgart at VII Corps HQ, deployed to Saudi in Desert Storm back in 1990. When we got back, things started drawing down fast, wicked fast! 3d AD, 1st ID, went bye bye, 2d AD (the BDE that was in Germany) got their marching orders to dissolve, Berlin Brigade, it was crazy!

I agree 100 percent!

Yep, 175,000 elite troops gone in less than a year.

I had a great plan.......

We should of redeployed the entire Army VII Corps (175,000 strong) after Desert Storm to the Southern border of the U.S. and we would of had the border problem from the Pacific to the Atlantic completely fixed in 24 hours!!!!

LOL! Who knows.....maybe we crossed paths in Desert Storm and didn't know it.

VII Corps' at the end of Desert Storm was a very effective Army! At it's prime, fed, clothed, and armed, we needed a target, the Mexican border would have been good, Pat Buchanan said as much back then, but he said create a 2d Cavalry Division and put it there!

I hooked up the new PS pump today, topped it off, and, ran it, it groaned after about 30 seconds, needing more fluid, what was coming out of the gear box was, is ****! I shut it down, put the filter on, topped it off again, and it appeared to 'boil', pretty gross ****, going to get a bunch of ATF tomorrow and flush it out big time, hoping the gear box is not bad. Good thing is that 440HP I built is smooth, and runs awesome!

Nice! Is the PS pump working OK now?

Where is your battery hold down?

Battery Hold-Down? No idea, well, I have an idea where it is, but, that's fine detail stuff, not there yet, still marking big things off the list!

Guess your gonna hang on to the A/C stuff? I know many guys remove it or at least disconnect the compressor. Its a big, heavy lump of iron that can really get in the way of stuff sometimes. I still have mine on my 383 but have gone back and forth on what to do with it....then it gets really hot outside and decide to keep it, lol.

If the car has A/C, why not keep it and get it working? They are pretty easy to get working. The ATC II system is a little harder to get running...
