What did you do to your C-body today....

We did our first car show of the season today. I look forward to this one every year. It's at a local park and runs with the Marcellus "Old Home Days". It's just a few miles away and free!
We took the '70 300 vert and the 300L and left a little early because the pollen and Canadian fire smoke was bothering us.

Here's the overall winner. 1912 Simplex. The motorcycle next to it is a 1913 Harley and it belongs to a guy around the corner from me. The Simplex is breath taking and was driven there! The Harley's not too shabby either.

People's choice was this pickup. The two butts on the right side of the pic are my dog and I. I'm the taller one.

Made a new friend with the '66 300 parked next to our two cars.

Frankie the 69 Fury developed a coolant leak. Chsnged the bypass hose...
still leaked.
Cleaned the crud off the fitting with emery cloth and cranked the hose clamp on.
Still leaked.
The water pump at the fitting is rotted and leaking..
Leaks pretty good so no goin to town til the new water pump is on. Ugh.

I raised up back of my 300 to check u joints. Seem to be good. Went ahead and unhooked wire from gas tank sending unit, grounded it, cranked car and gauge pegged at full. Going to go put about 10 gals of non ethanol premium in and see where needle goes. Hope yall have a Happy Fathers Day!!

Saturday my boys helped me get some minor things done on the NYer. Getting her ready for another season of driving.

*Pulled the passenger front seat to straighten out the carpet.
*Pulled all the wheels and checked the brakes, rotated the tires while we were at it.
*Changed the oil and filter.
*Tightened the rear view mirror.

Looking forward to Carlisle.

66 Town and Country needed all new parts for the steering bar (Thanks Craig!). Resealed leaky oil pan, new Cloyes timing chain, water pump, idler wheel and power steering pump. A lot of work, but it needed it.

New filler tube grommet

When I first filled up the tank and realized that the fuel stayed in there, I was relieved.
So in the following weeks, I always filled it to the brim. However, the last few times it started to drip – a little at first, then quite heavily. The last time I filled it up, it became clear that I urgently needed to do something. As a first aid measure, I had to put a bucket under the tank to avoid getting a ticket... :D

Installation was incredibly easy. All I had to do was unscrew the screw holding the filler neck holder, turn it about 90 degrees to the left, and pull it out. No need to lower the tank or anything similar.
The filler neck was fairly easy to remove and the new one very easy to insert. I used silicone grease for it. Perfect.

It's hard to believe that such a simple construction, which seals a tank opening completely submerged in gasoline, can prevent leaks.

What I noticed after removing was that my tank is quite rusty from the inside – roughly from the middle to the back. This confirms the previous owner's statement that the car had barely been driven for years. Unfortunately, it was probably low in fuel.

And what could have caused these strange scratches??

What do you think? Is cleaning and flushing, or even replacing, necessary, or can I live with it and move on?
Is the rust gradually breaking off and causing fuel flow problems, or is regular filter changes sufficient?
I have no experience with rusty tanks.

Removed the 4-hole 1/4" phenolic carb spacer from between the Holley Sniper and Edelbrock Performer on the 440 in my 300 and replaced it with a 1/4" open spacer. The 4-hole wasn't bad, but the open spacer really improved idle quality, throttle response and overall driveability.

I don't have hood clearance to try anything thicker, but with the open spacer it's like I have a poor man's Edelbrock Performer Air Gap that I can revert to a standard dual plane intake any time I want.

Here are the spacers I've tried:
