What did you do to your C-body today....

Finally got my interior done in the 300L. This has been a bit of a struggle for me... It seemed like everything that I touched needed much more than I figured on. I'd say I have 2 or 3 times more time in it than I figured.

The whole process kind of started last year with replacing the foam in the rear seat bottom and then got going again this summer. I replaced the foam in the bottoms of the front seats, new carpet, rebuilt the door panels with new board and painted, repainted the package tray and fixed the clips along with adding a new felt piece under it, the console got new carpet trim, repainted the plastic and fiberboard side pieces for the rear seat, and dyed the faded front seats to match the rear.

I also added a new rear speaker and wiring for the planned radio upgrade this winter and repaired some existing faults in the body wiring. The rear quarter window also got a new motor.

We had some really hot weather that slowed me up... and I had to play "responsible adult" again few times for my in-laws (long story). Both took more time away from working on the car.

I'm happy with the results. I told my wife to throat punch me if I ever get a another car with a white interior. The dog is never going for a ride in this car again...

Simply beautiful.
Oh it would be so much easier if we could walk into a new car dealer and pick out a brand-new c body.

Masterful! Beautiful work, John!

Put a new battery in the Polara that my friend donated. He wanted to crank it over. We didn’t have a tool to lift the battery out, with the heat shield it is difficult to get a grip on it but I managed.

We pulled the coil wire and cracked it for about 30 seconds to get oil moving and short enough not to move gas.

This has been my summer project. The AZ body had a crumpled up pass side taillight, quarter. The MI car had a quarter with rusty rot at the bottom and wheel opening. I swapped the trunk lid because the other one wouldn't latch right, bent. I used the tail light and its' frame and the filler plate under the light.
I thought I could get this done over a long weekend, I got started and the weekend was over. Took my PTO and still wasn't even close to being done. I've been picking away at it a little on weekends when I can. Goal is to get the butt seam welds ground , sanded flush and a some primer over it. I have not a clue what I'm doing so I'm going slow anyway, trying to avoid the oh-sh%t moments.

It’s looking good!

Now that I've finished with the interior of my '70, I attacked the broken motor mounts on the 440 yesterday.

Haven't finished because the job is such a PITA, and will get back to it on Thursday. But, WHOA!! The passenger side was in bad shape, and the driver's side was separated right at the plate.

When I bought this car., 21 years ago this November, the mounts were bad then. Seems to me they should have lasted longer than 17 years. (Yes, I knew they were bad at least five years ago. Had to find another fan shroud too.)

Good on you!

Yesterday, I replaced the Transmission mount that I did not do last week. Was glad to learn that it did, indeed, need to be replaced. I don't think I replaced this 21 years ago when I first did the motor mounts, as I had no memory of this job.

You can see by the rubber coming out that it needed replacing.

Actually, a fairly easy swap.

Late summer 2024 acquisition.

1967 Newport

1967 Newport, one owner before me, 79K original miles, 383-2V, low options, all drums, non-cc storage indoors whole life (excpt. fall of 2022 under a lean-to), rarely driven past ~two decades.

Except for tires/maintenance items, original paint, interior, etc. Not perfect, but held up really well at 58 years old, and driven/regularly maintained the first 40 of those years.

After some work as of November 2024.

Re-cored radiator (now a three-row), rebuilt original starter and alternator, rebuilt original carburetor (a Stromberg), upper end gaskets (not heads) replaced, brakes done (inc. lines), new fuel lines, trans flush/fill/gasket/filter.

Elbow grease on original paint, "SOS" pads (memba those?) on original wheel covers/bumpers, and three months of normal driving to shake it down. Snow season requires it hibernate for the winter in my warehouse in NY.

Everything worked (even AC, but need to scrounge up some R12) till last week before I put it away. Gotta sort out fuel gauge crapping out.

Will be for sale in the fall next year. I will put it here to see if anyone wants it. If not, will see what market thinks. If not then? I'll spin it for while, try again in 2026.:)

Very nice job, especially on the love given to the long slab panels - that was a lot of work. These 383 67's are very drive-able and make excellent cruiser, very nice on the open road and gliding over rough pavement and bumps. Miss my 67.
