Hello,

I have a 63 New Yorker with the 727 trans. Is the pan gasket and internal filter the same as later 60's?

And does anyone know someone who still makes the external trans filters that these cars had?

#1...Yes and yes except for the 3rd inner hole in the filter but they will both work fine #2...NO And they were only there to save dropping the 727 pan anyway. getting the 727 pan gasket to seal can sometimez be bi.t.ch tho'

The external/inline filters will turn up on ebay every now and then. Some of them will be priced as if they are some kind of gold filter so wait and you'll find a reasonably priced one.

Can you please elaborate more on this? I've never worked with these trans before. Always had four speeds.

Sure 63FUN. Those filters are basically square with one corner cut off at about a 45* angle. They are ALL mounted with 3 or 4 metal screwz(the memory fadez) slotted for a flat head screw driver and they are all the same length. The early filters had THREE BYPASS THROUGH HOLES IN A DOG LEG PATTERN to aid ATF flow. Chrysler and all the other manufactures included of the later filters have deleted one of those three bypass holes. The 727 apparently doesn't know the difference. Jer

Do you know of any specific companies that remake the original filter?

Or are these filters cleanable?

For $7 or $8, Defiantly Disposable. Go to your local Partz store and ask for a 727 trans filter. If a newbie to the business iz standin' behind the counter and asks you what year transmission just tell him to pick ah number between 1962 and 1990 'cuz their all the same. If he's telling you hiz computer needz a specific year you pick one 'cuz if hez that stupid he won't know the difference anyway

You pick a year. After he does all the work, you say, Wait, I made a mistake, then you give him a different year. Repeat as necessary until he learns they are all the same.
Then walk out and buy it at another store...

Years ago I was advised the inline tranny filter is the exact same that the military has. Somewhere I have one to put on my '59 Imperial.
