My car gets sick of being neglected and week by week turning it on becomes harder and harder.

The last time i turned it on it seemed flooded, i turned the key... the engine cranked but it didn't turn on.
The only glimpse of the engine running was like a fraction of a second after i released the key.
So i cranked again, released the key and immediately turned the key again and it started.

Now i decided that it is time for a new carb (very likely the culprit). I have an Edelbrock 1406 at home off of a chevy 350.

What do i need to install it on a stock 318?
Thanks

You will definitely need Eddie part # 1481 carb linkage adapter. What are you using for an air cleaner?

If you are using an Eddie performer intake it may have a thin plate adapter Eddie # 2732. You'll need it because you are putting a square bore carb on a manifold designed for a TQ. Make sure you have carb gakets on both sides of the plate. The carb plate comes in the Eddie intake box for big blocks....not sure if they come in the box for small blocks.

He has to change the intake to put it on a 318, only ever came with tiny 2bbl. If he puts a performer intake the carb will go on with just a gasket.

Commando1 may be right after all.

The only reason i wanted to change the carb is because i already have the edelbrock, i probably wouldn't have spent money on a new one without being 100% sure the carb is really the problem first.

Could you please tell me what brand and model of carb they installed on the 318 back in '77? I tried to read around it but i can't see anything.
I might be starting studying how to rebuild it...

Thank you

He'll need the adapter plate....

This is why I'm not a small block guy
So why would Edelbrock cast a manifold that their own carburetor does not fit on? (rhetorical question) Vic sr. is spinning in his grave. Also which ports is it a miss match on the 318 or the 360. I would not use that intake at all.

I would pull the engine and scrap it put a big block or a lsx.

I used one of these to stick a JY QJ onto a 318 back in the 80's... used intake $25, carb $5-10, kit $10... countless hours trying to make it all work... priceless.

Of course back them I wouldn't have understood matching the ports very well...

Mopar SB & BB Eddie Performer manifolds are cast for TQ application. Most Eddie carbs are square bore and that is why Eddie includes the 2732 plate with the BB manifold. IDK about the SB Performer....I assume it comes with the 2732 plate too. If you put a TQ on the SB & BB Performer intake then you don't need the plate.

Stop it!!! :mob:
Stay with a 2bbl.
What's the matter with you guys?
Well at the time I was 19 and sure I could make it all work... My Oldsmobile QuadraJet never did quite let me mash it from a stand still, but as a kid I couldn't put my head around the idea of running a carb the size of a beer can.
