Hello folks!

So, I've scoured forums and the internet and see mostly conflicting or "possible" things.

Is there anyone who has the correct info on a newer post 64 (non-tapered axle) rear end that can be swapped with the correct pinion angle and perch/spring measurements?

We need to locate an easy to do, affordable replacement.

A little background- axles and/or drums and hubs on rear are damaged from multiple shops trying to get drums off. Ended up grinding the swedged bolts off to separate drums and hubs.

Just to get the car to go back together shims had to be machined and put inside drums to "stop floating". Braking is now worse than ever with the car surging, of sorts (kinda like warped drums would feel).

One of the cars that I've had over the years was a 1958 Plymouth 2 door hardtop. I swapped the entire axle assembly from an E body Barracuda. It bolted right in. I got it at Carlisle complete with the housing, axles and backing plates for $50. This was about 15 years ago, and I got it from a guy who switched to a Dana rear in his E body. I don't know how easy it will be to find one, but the Barracuda rear will work. I believe it was from a 1970, but all the 70-74 8 & 3/4 rears will be the same dimensions.

@vanguy - this might help:

Where in Canada are you? I've got a '73 Satellite that I have to start dismantling some day, maybe the axle is the length you're looking for?

Rear end out of a 66 New Yorker. Now in our 57 Dodge Royal. The holes in the spring perches had to be opened up 1/4" to get the pin in the leaf spring to line up. Other than that it is a direct bolt in. The tires are 235/75/15 9n a 7" rim.

Thanks for the reply. Rim size ended up 14 or 15? We would like to stay "stock" if possible at 14".

The rear worked with both 14" and 15" rims. When I first did the swap, I put the stock 14" rims and tires back on. A few months later I put 15" rims on with larger tires.
