1963 Newport front suspension/steering

Who told you that you need an Idler Arm and PITMAN ARM ????

Don't waste your time going back there --- they are Useless......

What this car uses for Steering Components is the CENTER LINK, Idler Arm Bushing , Inner and Outer Tie Rods and Sleeves....
The PITMAN ARM is a Non - Wear, Non - Replaceable item....

As far as the best supplier of these parts, P.M. me , as per forum rules, if interested......Craig.....

It is far more common to see Idler Arm wear. If somebody wants to replace both, they are probably wanting to cover a poor diagnosis as "an old car needs everything" to them. Perceiving the customer wants it to "drive like new" when done. To the shop, the only way to get to "like new" is to replace everything. In aiming for that result, they can also replace some used parts which are better than the new ones they are installing.

Center links are not real wear items, per se, although they can have some greaseable joints in them. As with other things suspension, keeping them greased is key to their longevity. Longevity that can span over 500K miles, in my situation.

For reference, the ONLY thing I have ever replaced on my Chryslers is the idler arm. 1966-'72 C-bodies, but I normally do not drive on poor dirt roads, either.

Aim toward the Moog brand, if possible.

Considering your location, to minimize shipping costs, you might head over to www.rockauto.com to see what is still available, as to brands and pricing. Then shop the local auto supply chains to see what they can offer and at what price, "in stock" or not. Plus if "shipping" is extra. To me, this is "due diligence shopping". Key point is that if the local supplier sends a wrong part, you can immediately take it back to them!

Just some thoughts,

^^^ There is +++ NO MOOG Available +++ period… ^^^

Up through 1964 , Chrysler’s Wearable Pivots ARE IN the
CENTER LINK……

There is NO rock auto on these items…..

^^^ Before you “ just some thoughts “ , you should do your
“ due diligence “ on what constitutes correct answers…..

Much more than just thoughts…..Craig….

@mobileparts , I will readily admit that I am not well-versed in pre-'66 Chrysler front end components, not nearly to the extent you might be. BUT I always encourage the use of RockAuto.com catalogs for the purpose I mentioned. "See what's available and at what cost", rather than just starting to look locally and perceive "that's all there is" (at least to the local outlets).

My last paragraph starts with "Considering your location", which is WA, across the country from your location in NY, shopping local can be a considered option. Once "what's available" has been determined via RockAuto catalogs. No more, no less. I also said "Aim for Moog", not knowing their coverage on the older models. Then, "Aim" lower to what is available if Moog is not covering those particular items any more, as needed.

Here's my "due diligence" shopping method:
1) Check the RockAuto.com catalogs to see what's available and at what costs.
2) Check the local auto supply chain store website to see what they have in house or what they can order. Compare prices and brands, too. Always looking for OEM-level parts rather than house-brand items, when possible.
3) Then also check the manufacturer's website for "Where Sold". As I found out recently, that local store might have access to the part via their main warehouse, so use this for a physical check reference.
4) With all of the above data known, THEN other, more niche, vendors can be considered. Which, of course, would have included @mobileparts . Had the OP only have been a few hours drive from your NY location, @mobileparts could easily have been his "best choice" vendor, rather than the WA location in the profile.

Enjoy!

These items are not heavy —- and I have them IN Stock…
It will not be a big expense to send them to Washington State….

This Calendar year —- I have shipped to Canada , Norway , Canada , Australia, Canada , Sweden , New Zealand, Canada , Canada, Belgium , and Canada earlier this week…..

And, if you look up all of those items on rock auto —- you will see one ( 1 ) item listed —- the tie rod sleeves… Ho Hum / yawn —- big deal……..

And, if I had a nickel ( 5 cents ) for every listed wrong application from rock auto , I could drop another $ 200 , 000 in there…..

Anyone who depends / relies on their “ cataloging “ for information will contribute handsomely to their seriously growing mountain of Returns……
