1964 Chrysler 300K "Letter Car"

Welcome Ken and how does that Ram induction sound at 5K? You have any video ride along capability?

tallhair.....

the sound, feeling and vibration is unlike anything I've ever experienced!
it really sounds like a freight train coming down the highway!
I have the factory, stock cast iron exhaust headers (not very free-flowing)
attached to factory 2 1/2" pipes, through the x-member, running through Magnaflows,
coming out the 2 1/2" turn-downs. a mighty rumble at idle, but when the Torqueflight
kicks down, and the secondary's open - holy sh*t batman! owned her for years, STILL
does not get old!
no ride-along video yet, but I can work on it! my car is bone stock.....right down to the
original, dual-point, tach drive distributor. this year, I'm doing a full tune-up, and might
change my spark box to the Pertronix just for a fatter, more powerful ignition.
have nothing against slight mod's, but I'm a "factory-stock" guy all the way.
car weighs almost 4300lbs, but you wouldn't know it as she floats down the highway!

ken

I want a ride dammit!!!

detmatt.......

I'm sure you have the same thing in at least ONE of those stallions in your stable! LOL
any hemi's in there?

Sounds awesome Ken and I've heard nothing but good things for the Pertronix. Here's to your tune up and hopefully a ride-a-long video

For now how about some more engine shots with and w/o the breathers?

No Hemis and not that I wouldn't want one but there's nothing wrong with a wedge!

I can do that. lemme see what I have. my wife jokes that I have more pictures of this car than I do of our kids!
(not true of course) LOL

as I'm told, same block for 413, 426 and 440..........just a function of different bore/stroke, and combination of heads.
I thought about putting a pair of hemi heads on her, but why? the Cross Rams are amazing to look at.
Not the easiest engine in the world to work on, but hey, it's a labor of love! LOL
I was also told that Chrysler (and the other guys) were notorious for under-rating their published
horsepower and torque values, I'm guessing for NHRA and insurance purposes? the book has mine rated
at 390hp, 485 ft/lbs of torque. I believe them! actually, some of the other letter car owners have estimated the ram cars
to be closer to 425 hp, well over 500 ft/lbs? I'm really not sure. All I know is, when I see the surprised look at every Mustang,
Camaro, disco-Vette (any 70's corvette), Honda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, acura, blah....blahhh when I let off the gas and they finally catch up
to me......it's just priceless! these cars are made to be driven - to be enjoyed. my wife thinks I'm crazy for going into the garage everyday just to talk to her, if I don't take her out one day. LOL the wives don't understand sometimes!

tallhair,

hard to tell what the rams sound like at 5k.....I usually run out of road, and I'm probably doing close to 140mph!

The Rams aren't manifolds.
They are pipe organs.

Great car, Ken. Quite a rare beast, even for a letter car, since the 'standard' engine was a single 4bbl. I had a '61 300-G cross-ram 30 years ago. Being a 20-something kid then, I foolishly sold it...

Yeah I'll bet .. I've had 2.76 and 3.23 gears behind quite a few RBs ... I meant under hard acceleration in the lower gears though hehe

yeah.....the factory Sure-Grip was DEFINATELY the way to go! I couldn't imagine the car without it. you'd never get off the line.
and even with the tall rear, I still need to watch how much I stomp the pedal, or I stay in the hole.
my cousin has a '71 Cuda with a 360 in it. Slap-stick auto. we drag each here in Mass behind the local mall. He also has a '68 440 Roadrunner.
Made for the 1/4 though, not exactly street legal. I haven't run against that yet, but I know I'd be glad with the results. :)

thanks to all for your comments on the car! it's a funny thing too, because every car show or cruise that I go to.....unless you find the die-hard or old school Mopar guys, NO ONE knows what the cross rams are.
and nearly EVERY time, someone asks me "what's under the hood"?
i'll say something like "oh, it's got a small eight in there"
they'll guess 318 usually, and i'll say "nah, a bit larger"
I open the hood. if I had a dollar for every time I heard "holy ****, what is that?
I'd have enough for maybe 3 tanks of gas for her! LOL
