1964 Chrysler 300K "Letter Car"

polara71,

how did I find her......it was actually the other way around. she found me.
at that time, I was looking for a "father-son" project for my youngest son, to be his first car.
on my way back home to look at a '68 Mustang Fastback, I noticed it at a gas station, off to the side.
I usually look at cars everywhere, get the book at the local supermarket, bank, Chinese restaurant, etc.
I really didn't know what I saw as I drove by, but I knew it was old, and I didn't ever remember seeing
one of "these". I went back maybe two days later, and realized on the spot, that this car would be mine.
in 1991, after my oldest son was born, I had a 1958 Chrysler Saratoga. 354 push-button. I had that one
for a year, but mortgage payments, food and diapers were more pressing than a toy, so I had to sell her,
and do what I had to do. still have the memories and pictures. so when I saw the 300K, it all came back to me!
one phone call to the owner and one test drive later, and we shook hands on a price. needless to say, my wife
was surprised to see him come home with this new car! she wasn't overly surprised, since she knew I was "itching"
to get another old Mopar. and the fun begins.......LOL

I have some, but the file sizes are too large. i'll see if I can put them up on photobucket, and post the link here.
is that ok to do on this forum?

Hello group! New to this forum. Looking for assistance in the renovation and preservation of my 300K

Anyway, if anyone has a lead on parts/donor cars, I'd be interested. Thanks!

Hi Ken ........ :sSig_greetingsthor:....... :welcome:.
Sorry, I'm a little late to the party.
That is a beautiful "K". You lucky guy. It dosen't look like it needs to much in parts.

I do know of a complete 64 "K" parts car, less the engine & trans. It was an original cross ram car also. It belongs to a friend in central Tenn. I'll check with him but i'm sure he will part with it for a fair price.

Will.

Look at that engine compartment, exotics like Ferrari, Porsche, etc. Have nothing on those long ram RB engines, you just gotta love Chrysler engineering.

thanks everyone! did anyone notice the track sheet?
it's the build sheet that went down the line in 1964 when the car was ordered.
it was in the rear seat springs (as evidenced by the spring marks/indentations)

interestingly enough, my son and I pulled out the rear seat in his 1975 Plymouth Valiant (he's 17, it's his first car)
:)
and sure enough, we found the track sheet for his car too! he was totally ecstatic! I was for him too.
the 225 slant in his car is rated at 95 HP! I just sold off a 1964 Chrysler New Yorker, with a 413 single 4 barrel.
Jacob wanted me to put the 413 in his Valiant! I told him no way! he says "why not"
I told him "because I want you to stay alive"! :)

my intention this spring is to pull the motor, reseal every gasket that the engine has, spray it the correct Chrysler Blue,
and detail the engine compartment. hopefully, the next time you all see the engine bay, it will look a lot cleaner, more blue,
and ready to rumble! lol

Yeah we see it but I personally never heard or saw 'track sheet' printed on one before .. cool

thanks tallhair.....

I couldn't believe how much documentation came with the car. not only did it have all the stuff I showed in the photos, but they also
kept the first 10 years or so of registrations in New Jersey. Amazing!
That Chrysler Service book is an original from '64. Not a reprint. The Technical bulletin that was issued in '64 is in my collection as well (came with the car)
And the one thing that I never expected to see, was the 300K owners supplemental gold booklet, that basically spelled out all the creature comforts, features and specifications of the engine. i'll put up a photo of that booklet too. I know I'm going on and on about the car, but I can never talk about her enough! I think this car is in my bloodstream..........LOL

Imagine finding this car for sale, on a lot or on the roadside ..... Then looking through the window to see that loaded interior, then popping the hood. A TRUE Mopar lovers dream come true.
