1969 Imperial progress thread

Don't know if this helps but the Stub frame stripped = 200 lbs.

Here is something a friend of mine came across that you could build yourself. This is one variation, I've seen others:

I've seen all the alternatives, but most of them I don't trust and the one in the pictures requires the suspension parts.

In the german mopar board, a member have build a wooden structure bolted to the seatbolts from the inside. But on a dart... I'm not happy with the risk of my car laying on the roof. Would complicate the whole project...

A '70 Challenger hood is only 60 lbs so I can't see an Imperial hood being a heck of a lot more than that.

Good point. I plan on doing this one side at a time. I bought the largest jack I could afford with a 20 inch lift. I will use a series of stands to lift it on edge. if I sit on the ground with my legs crossed I should be able to reach to the center of the car.

That was my first idea as well, but since the car is on 4 jack stands, I realized it will not work zhat way. Besides the fact that I'm not willing to climb around in the car just sitting on stands. Especially in the trunk.

I carried the damn hood around in my shop several times because this big thing is always blocking something and I'm pretty sure it's more then 60 pounds :O

Here is what I did,

I guestimated the weight at 1500-2000.

I took 2 bathroom scales rated at 500 (can be done with one).

Placed a board across them.

Jacked the car up and put one rear wheel on blocks.

Put the other on the two scales.

Leveled the jack stand at the front.

The scales give you the weight on one side, double for the rear weight or repeat on the other side (mine was 1 pound different).

Put rear back down and put scale (only one needed) under front jackstand.

Add them all up.

If you have no rear I'd try to get the car in a 3 point support setup and weigh each point.

This thread is awesome. I wish I had the attention span to go back and read a bunch of this....

Unfortunately, I don't have scales like this :( My bathroom scale is glass, not a good idea to put a car on top of that!

But if you had 1700 with axle on your car, I would guess mine's not more than 2000 pounds completely gutted and stripped down. If it gets warmer I'll remove the doors, glass and the lid. After that, there is not a single screw left on the car...

Ok, here is what you need to know. Vodka spent years looking for a 69 Imperial. Found one, but the seller was a jerk and wouldn't sell it. Found another and it took a year to get it to Germany. He then proceeded to remove every piece of the car in a seemingly nonsensical way (makes sense to him!) driving some of us crazy. Polished and restored even the tiniest clip. Now he wants to put it on a spit and rotate the carcass like a pig. Stay tuned, not the end....

Well summarized, That exactly what has happened in 138 pages. Plus a few pictures.
