So many sheltered individuals in the world who don't now what a blast furnace feels like - going 60 mph with the windows down when it is 112F outside. I will take even the relatively weak a/c to nothing. Only GM cars in the early 70s had really good a/c systems. The rest were weak, including Chrysler. GM engine cooling systems were much better accordingly as well. GM Harrison systems ruled!

I suppose you sissies use the heater in the winter too, which I rarely use.

AC is x-tra weight that no one really needs.
Chrysler ACs don't work very well either as a good friend who knows told me.
So save the weight and turn the windows down. The good old 4/60 AC (four windows down going 60mph).

I had twice in my life a c-body woth working AC. Never used it as I just didn't like it.

With a 1970 Imperial, I wouldn't worry too much about the added weight of the compressor and related components! Take them off and you won't notice, I assure you! By definition a real luxury car has to have a/c. I'll bet every Mercedes S class in Germany has a/c along with their perfumers and massage seats in the rear compartment. Otherwise, it is low rent. :poke:

I run the defrosters almost every day... early am, lots of humidity... but only for the first few minutes before the engine starts making it hot... if not for that convenience, heat would be optional.

Heat and AC are dependent on geography. I guarantee if you lived where I do, High humidity in the summer and frigid cold in the winter you would use and greatly appreciate both.

Oh, I use it in the Finnish summer!

Seriously, the heater is a MUST if you want the wife enjoy of the whole night ride with top down, too... I mean the car is topless, not wife, lol

I find it curious that everyone thinks they have high humidity and temperatures more than the next guy.
Because many can relate and remember the 112 Carlisle heat of four years ago [?] Where I was walking through the heat, haze and humidity with a smile on my face. .AC is simply not for everyone, be it one day, one season or all year long.
FYI the A/C goes on in the house after the Thermostat reads 95.

The A/C became desirable to me when the cars lost their good under dash vents and wing windows. My 300 vert has A/C to keep Mrs. Big John happy, otherwise I wouldn't care.

This Imperial... It would have to have it working. It would just fit the personality of the car to have A/C so cold that it frosts the windows.

I don't like A/C cars for no other reason but it clutters up the engine bay and takes away from the clean finished look that Mopars have over the spray bomb look of GMs and Fords of the day.

I have to have A/C in my daily driver because that is where i am all day and cant be on the phone with windows open. Looking at a 40 to 50 year old car is different. If that Imp was the car I had to have it wouldn't stop me. If as time went on it mattered i would get it working. If I were buying it to flip I would stay away.

I refuse to get into these A/C vs. no A.C. arguments anymore.

Bottom line:
Some parts of the country requires it and in other parts of the country A/C is superfluous.

I'm sick of the tone it always seems to end up with that it's all about machoness.

To have it or not?

Macho-ness or not and regardless of where you live, A/C really helps with operation of the defroster. When the windshield is fogged up, you gotta have the A/C running (it runs with the defroster) to quickly clear it. I remember reading somewhere that there is a federal requirement that manufacturer's cars must be able to clear a windshield within a certain time, and without the A/C running with the defroster, they couldn't comply. So all cars now have A/C. Maybe Steve (SAFORWARDLOOK) can comment on this. . .

please don't ask me what Mercedes S class do have or not.
I have no clue.

All I can say is none of my cars have that crap and they are all built before 1971.

Some of them could use a heater in the winter. But often it doesn't work in Fuselage C-bodies.
Then we start with the window down number again

Just curious where in Germany you live? I worked for a German company for a while, VEKA, vinyl windows, doors, extrusions. They were located in Sendenhorst, just east of Munster. Been there many times.

Even though I live in Phoenix I don't use A/C in my old cars when it's too hot. Trying to keep yourself and the engine cool is difficult at best. At 100 degrees plus it is just too much strain on the cooling system especially in traffic. I've resigned myself to the fact that if I want to be cool while driving I better be in a newer vehicle.

I live in Essen just 60 miles away (south west).

If you are in the area again: Let me know
