1970 Plymouth Sport Fury V10 Swap Build Thread

Well I guess some of the posts got lost in the server issue.

So I got my gas tank out and cleaned it. After a good cleaning I found it has many holes in the top from rust.

I found a new 70 B body tank that a friend isn't going to use and can get it cheep. I know it is smaller but wanted to ask if anyone has put a B body tank in a fusie? I have seen pics of the in a slab side but not a fusie.

Thanks

I'm getting the b body tank this weekend. The V10 is fuel injected so I ordered an in line high pressure pump and fuel filter/regulator. Before I put in the new fuel system I have to replace the trunk pan. I will be posting pics of that progress so.

Thanks but the tank has over a dozen dime size holes in the top so I'm going with the B body tank I found.

I got my care package from amazon, fuel pump, fuel lines with fittings, fuel regulator/filter and new tank filler seal. Everything was about $170 and free shipping.

Fuel pump is 255LPH @ 43 psi with an operating range of 35 to 130 psi.
The regulator/filter is a corvette style that all the LS swap guys use and holds the pressure at 58psi. V10 Dodge range is 45 to 55 +/- 3 psi so I think this will work well.
The fuel line is 3/8 with 6n fittings.
Still need to pick up a pre-filter and new in tank sock.

I'm going to convert my pickup to a 3/8 line.

The first thing I need to do is replace the trunk pan. Hopefully I can start the tear out of the old pan today.

Got out the wheel of death and made some progress on the tear out of the trunk floor.

Even had a helper show up to inspect the job.

Anyone know if 14 inch wheels will fit over the stock disc brakes on the front?
Thanks

Got the trunk floor cut out. Going to seal the inside of the frame before welding in the patch panels.

Got the trunk pans tacked in. I don’t have a bead roller so I just used a piece of flat sheet for the center. The trunk side panels came with the car.

I will seal all the seams with fiberglass. Not my best work work but this one’s going to be a driver.

Just a random thought... Seeing the work on the trunk floor, it makes me wonder if an early Mustang tank would be the way to go. The top of the Mustang tank is the trunk floor and I see that you can buy them set up for fuel injection, like this one is. The filler neck is something you'd have to work out, but otherwise, it would be very simple to fit. I've seen older cars fitted with these.

That’s a great idea but I already have the b body tank, high pressure pump filter and regular.

Got my new tank for $120 and got a new stainless steel sending unit with 3/8 pickup and a return port for $44 shipped from eclassics.

Got the fuel tank mounted and going to start plumbing and wiring the new fuel system.

switching gears for a minute what do you guys think about these appliance cross wire wheels? I know they are period correct because they came out in the early 70’s. I have had them sitting out behind my garage for 10 years and forgot about them. I love the road wheels but I want to run 255 to 275 tires on the back so need something wider. I placed a set of slots on it but I didn’t care for them as much as these.

I like how the green on the tire matches the green on the fender...

It isn't a S23 or GT car so I don't feel to bad about swapping in the V10.

how comes that your car sports the S23/ GT strobe stripes ? Or are those marks the remains of the molding that used to be on a regular
model ?

It’s the remains of the molding glue. I thought it was a S23 strip before I went and looked at it.
