You are trying to get more out of a fender tag than was actually put into it. Consider the following broadcast sheet:

It clearly states N88 "Auto Sp Control".

Does the fender tag echo that?

No, it doesn't.

To understand why this is so, you have to know the specific plant's logic for stamping the fender tag. And we don't.

So again, the fender tag isn't faulty. Its contents depend on the specific plant's needs.

@JPMODL 's Molara -- but I am not 100% sure that info came from the fender tag as DL27L0D113633 was rebuilt back in the day with a new front clip from a donor 1970 Monaco 4dr hardtop by then-owner Rich S. @polara71, who posted the info, would know.

The Molara is currently for sale on Hemmings and is being discussed here.

New clip decades ago or not, the fender tag of DL27L0D113633 is still there and was posted in the ad -- here it is for records. SBD was Sept. 3, 1969.
