1971 Plymouth Sport Fury GT Brogham & U code Super Comando

Derek, can you tell us what brand of paint Paul uses for the primers, basecoats and clearcoats? Would be interesting to see how his choices compare to what I have heard from other painters. Also what brand of filler? And any comments on why his choices, would be interesting too. So we all can benefit from his experience too! Nice work indeed!

will ask him next time lm talking to him but hes saying theres very little if any filler in the panels so far...even the drivers fender he repaired is mostly hammer and dolly work.
Belive he throws down 3-4 good coats of epoxy primer and works it till smooth then guide coats it then he adds a special type coat to highlight any lows or highs as a last step before hes ready to paint...
Honestly l don't explain his process as well as it should be...belive Bill nailed it and explained the process much better than l can in his build thread so will just point you to that for now...

seeing these photos makes me think of when the car was for sale all those months, perhaps a couple years. Not many wanted to take this car to the promised land . Impressive Critter, very Impressive

Paul used PPG Omni on my car. For the little bits and pieces he used Krylon rattle cans in a selection of silver, aluminum, a bunch of different blacks and clear. Some were satan, some were gloss. Paul has a wall cabinet with a selection, about 40 or 50 cans. I looked through my invoices and did not find any filler like bondo, which is good since I hate bondo.

The paint looks great even without the cut and buff. You can tell a great painter by what it looks like before the cut and buff. Some guys have to cut and buff to make it look ok and some can lay it out like glass. I would put Paul in the lay it out like glass category.

When he painted my body shell, Paul wrote note to my wife and I which he stuck on the shop wall and then photographed the fender. Unfortunately, being a reflection, it was inverted. So he peeled it off the wall and turned it over so that the words could bed seen from behind. He had written it with a Sharpie on masking tissue. Anyway, the paint was still drying when he took this picture. "Laid out like glass" pretty well covers it.

so under what circumstances would you consider to be driving conditions for the white elephant?

Those doors are so perfect I would be having a heart attack just thinking about putting lube on the hinges and latch.

welp with Calgary being the hailstone capital of Canada in the summer and king of gravel on roads in summer.........no rain no clouds...can see myself getting up and moveing car around at 5 am in the morning before theres anyone else on the road and bugs are awake lol...l need to see if Bill gives lessons in stress management while driving in Calgary....

FWIW, you can get a new VIN sticker for the door from ECS. Exact copy with VIN and date. I did one for mine. You can't tell the difference from the original.

I ADMIRE YOUR DESIRE FOR THE PERFECT C BODY.... I however wouldnt want to deal with it. I have some survivor status cars, one in particular I don't enjoy driving because i'm a panic.

belive me its on my mind all the time..took my 91 gmc out for first drive after paint to get doorhandles in and didn't even make it to dealership and back without incurring a baby fingernail sized rock chip on the hood on way back...argh....can relate
