Old Man with a Hat
Thanks, Just to clarify: I pulled the pan to remove all the pieces of nylon plastic teeth, so they wouldn't clog the oil pan pickup. I don't understand how, but all the teeth came off at once. I was going up a hill at highway speed. At the bottom of the hill, the engine started acting strange, running poorly, then half way up the hill, it completely shut down. I had it towed home. When I pulled the cam gear, it had no teeth, completely rounded. You should not have to pull the pan on a big block. Just get the fel-pro timing set gasket kit has a section of oil pan gasket for the front. Small block is a crap shoot but you should still be able to get the timing cover off and on without disturbing the pan.
