1972 Plymouth Custom Suburban

Soldered in some good wire and installed a new headlight switch. Lights seem to all be working now with the exception of the fender mounted turn signals, will continue investigating...

Blimp.. Remove the fender light from the car... One wire plug in..
Hook up to a battery.. If dead, replace bulb....
By removing the fixture you are creating a clean ground
to insure proper operation...
By unplugging it you are insuring the plug is clean as well...
 
Oh-wow- cool dude. That's on my "To-Do" list for mine. My headlights ( high and low beans) and tail-lights do work but my gauge cluster is kinda dormant as is my heater ( blower motor does not even come on ) or AC. Oh- also- my wipers did come to life once but died slowly after so gotta check that as well.
I think fuses are first on my check list.
My rear window switch was solid as a rock ( did not go up or down) so I had to get a NOS switch from Ebay which works great now but my motor in the tailgate was toast so luckily the dude I bought my car from had sent me an entire spare tailgate and I poached the working motor from that.

Did you have to drop the steering column to get all that apart or not?
 
Yes I did drop the steering column, it's only a couple screws to get at it and three nuts to drop it down. After you do it a few times you can get it down in a couple minutes.
Thanks @Xenon for the tips. I found that one light was burnt out and the other was actually unplugged from the harness. New bulbs are on the way from Bulb Town...

Bulbs showed up. If anyone hasn't swapped a blinker light, it couldn't be much simpler.

Monday I was very suprised to find that the junkyard parts car I purchased a couple years ago still has a very solid exhaust system, so it's going to donate it to the project.

The Monaco is being stored in my parents pasture, so this was a perfect opportunity to use my newly purchased Dodge Ram to haul it home.

Was able to get what was left of the original downpipe removed, but in the process noticed that both engine mounts are torn apart. Guess all I can do is wait for another Rockauto order, hopefully that comes in by the weekend so I can get all this wrapped up.

Haven't got the exhaust or motor mounts in yet for various reasons. But I was able to clean up a set of steelies, mount some new Hankook 235/75/15 's and get them balanced.

So- some fun updates for you Blimp as you are digging into exhaust I see.
I went a bit sideways from the standard replacement parts, had some fun, bought a set of Sanderson DD7 block hugger hedders for Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth A-Body 318-360 V8 engines, rolled the dice and actually got them to fit and work. Only alteration needed was to swap the original starter for a NAPA mini starter ( Part # 244-6415) and all seems good.
Now- the question is exhaust.
I'm a dude who liked Flowmasters from when they first appeared with the original 40 series but found them a bit too loud on a 68 Bel Air I had so mu question now is- Super 40 Flowmasters or 40 Series Delta Flow.
I like the aggressive exterior sound but not the interior drone ya know.

Anyways- I'll attached some pics of the hedder install as I'm not sure how many C Body wagon owners have done this.

@f1967franche hey those headers look great on there, what was the year/model for the starter you bought? I'm probably going to buy headers for this sometime in the future, but after realizing I had a decent stock setup I'm going that route for now. Thanks for the pictures, feel free to toss up more as you progress.
 
Installed motor mounts today. Went to the hardware store and replaced those darned locking nuts with regular ones and a lock washer. The engine sits much straighter...also installed the Y pipe and replaced some leaky heater hoses. Hope to get the muffler installed tomorrow and then take it out to buzz around.

Man.. you are bringing back so many great memories for me... I had a 73 Sport Suburban as my first car (same color and style as the pic).

Seeing that dash bezel and speedometer really gave me a fun flashback. Wish I knew how to fix cars back then like I do now... I could have saved her..

Keep going man! She's really coming along!
